Nana Bekum called us early this morning to tell us that he had gotten the money Steve sent him. The people in our area get up so early in the morning because of the high concentration of Muslims. The Muslims love to use the loud speakers and call everyone to come for prayers. They start calling at 4:00 in the morning. They wake up everyone; even the Christians that have no need to get up early. Zorash says that they call early because everyone has to fetch water and bathe before they can go for prayers. Well, I have taken many a bath and it has never taken me 2 hours to bathe and get dressed! The first prayers of the day are at 6:00. Anyway it is difficult for our friends to realize that just because they are awake and ready for the day it does not necessarily mean we are up. Nana asked Steve how he was doing this morning and Steve replied, “I don’t know because I just woke up!” Nana thought that was very funny but we know he did not get the hint.
Timothy, the evangelist came for a visit this morning and to pick up some money to pay for his farm work. While he was here we had him call Nana back because Nana’s son has been sick and he said that they took him over to Togo for treatment. We want to know what is wrong with the boy and Nana does not hear our English very well. The network was not working but he is going to keep trying to get in touch with him.
Timothy told us about a young man that lives in his home village of Jagrido who was stabbed. He was in one of the larger cities when it happened. He was leaving a loan office carrying a bag and evidently the men that attacked him thought he had some money. This happened several weeks ago but the police were holding the body until they finished the investigation. Timothy said that they caught one of the men but he said he was not guilty because all he did was hold the man while the other man stabbed him. What kind of crazy thinking is that? The man that did the actual stabbing ran away and no one knows where to find him. They have little hope of finding him because even if someone knows where he is they will not tell the police. They finally brought the body home to Jagrido yesterday and had the burial. So sad!
Timothy also told us that Joel, one of the teenage church members at Kulkpeni father died and they will be doing the burial this evening. We sent some sympathy money for the church to put with their gift for the family. Traditionally the church members buy some cokes and take the cokes and some money as a gift.
Zorash did not make it to work today. She did not call to let us know what was going on but it was a holiday and maybe she wanted to take the holiday and make up the day she owes later. We did not open the Center today. Wednesday’s are our least busy day and since it was also a holiday we knew the mothers would not come out.
Please keep the families of those that have lost loved ones in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
