This morning was spent going to the carver’s shops off of Tettah Quashie intersection here in Accra. Kandie wanted to do some shopping for family and friends. Of course I went along to carry the parcels and pay the vendors. My main duty was to hold the items firmly in my hands and sit under any tree that had shade so I could doze while Kandie was left uninhibited to do her shopping. It is so funny; the vendors give Kandie the price of the item which she usually counters with an offering price of ½ to ¾ of the asking price. The vendors snicker when this happens but she usually gets the item/s for half of the asking price. Most tourists will go ahead and pay the price not knowing they are getting ripped off. Anyway, we had success in getting everything we needed and it is pack away in the suitcases.
During the afternoon we stayed in our hotel room and out of the sun. Kandie worked on the computer and we also called family and friends to coordinate our travels when we arrive in Alabama on Sunday. Plane tickets are outlandish this close to departure so we are planning to drive out to Houston on Tuesday to be with Buz’s family.
Later in the afternoon we went out hunting and gathering for food for our supper. The area where we are now staying doesn’t have any good restaurants for us to visit so we picked up some kebabs and a can of pork & beans along with a fresh sweet pineapple. Life’s simple pleasures are the best as the old Van Camp’s pork & beans commercial used to say!
On a serious note we do covet your prayers for a safe trip back home. We will leave Accra at 11:30 pm (5:30 pm CST) and arrive at 12:15 Sunday afternoon. Remember tomorrow night the time falls back one hour. We will try our best to notify you when we arrive on Sunday.
Have a good day. May God bless!
In his service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
