Red thought he had the bath house doors ready this morning but he had given them to someone else to put the bars on the side to lock them into the cement but he had not looked at them after the guy finished them; they were only half finished.  We had to wait a little while for him to finish them.  While we were standing in his compound waiting, I spied a very strange chair that spoke to me!  It said, “Kandie, take me home!”  Red had made the chair; at first glance it looked like a wheel chair that someone had mounted full sized tires on but it was a chair just to sit on in the living room.  The wheels were tall enough for the arm rests.  We could not keep from laughing at the peculiar chair.  I told Steve that I needed the chair; he just rolled his eyes and said, “Well, then buy it!”  I told Red that I needed the chair; he said he needed money so I should buy it.  He said that he wanted 400 Cedis for the chair (40 dollars); I told him that I would give him 300 Cedis (30 dollars).  He agreed but we could not bring it back to the mission house because we were loaded down with the doors and the floor tile for the toilets at Kulkpeni.  We intended to get it this afternoon when we went back to Kulkpeni but we forgot.  Steve has gone right now to pick up the chair.  If we don’t get it today, we will not be able to get it until Monday because Red is going to Tamale tomorrow.  I know Steve is excited about the new chair.  I told Red that now that I had the chair; I needed a footstool to go with it.  He laughed and told me to draw the design and he would make one for me!   The foot stool is also going to have wheels on the sides as decoration; he is going to use the small tires; not full-sized tires.  I am excited; it is the little things that make your day!

The masons have finished plastering one of the toilets and are almost finished with the other one.  They are looking good!  The guy was supposed to start laying the tile today but something came up and he cannot come until tomorrow.  The men that are leveling the ground worked for a while today but they did not finish the job.  Hopefully they will be back tomorrow.  The lady that planted green leaves against  one of the buildings is still causing trouble with the masons and not letting them finish the work on that side.  Tichak and the mason are going to talk to her again tomorrow.  She said she needed 5 days to let them grow; it has been more than a week.  We decided that when they talk to her, they should just ask her how much the green leaves are worth and we will pay her for them so the guys can finish that area.

The power went off yesterday afternoon, was off all night and part of the morning.  Donkey said that a pole was down on the road next to us.  When Steve reported the downed pole, the electric company said that they were aware that the pole was down; it had been burned off when they burned the fields to clear the bush.  They set a new pole late this afternoon so we have power again.

Take care, Steve likes to remind everyone to reset their clocks!  Today’s high temperature was 103 degrees with a heat index of 115 degrees!

The Monkeyshines

Dad caught a big grasshopper while they were at Kulkpeni this morning.  Mom did not have anything to put it in so she used a toilet paper cardboard roll, crimped the end, put the grasshopper inside and crimped the other end shut.  She then gave the toilet paper roll to me to open.  You can imagine my surprise when I opened it and that big grasshopper jumped out!  I about had heart failure!  The grasshopper was happy to be set free but I did not want to let it get away!  I jumped on it and knocked it around every time it tried to get away from me!  I finally subdued the thing and promptly bit off its head!  I was so proud of myself!  I dismembered it and ate the nicest morsels!  I was hungry because I refused to eat my morning bottle for Donkey.  I was in mourning because the parents left me!  But I must say they did a great job today with the surprise they brought me back!

Mom and Dad got back later than normal today so they stopped to get a guinea fowl for their supper; I don’t care for guinea fowl, I prefer fruit!  Mom said the guy that was barbecuing the guinea fowl also had some interesting kabobs.  He had kabobs that had guinea fowl gizzards mixed with guinea fowl intestines and he had strung cow intestines on skewers!  Yuck!   Mom said that they looked inviting so she bought one of each to try!  INVITING!  Inviting to what?  An upset stomach?  I have been telling you people that Mom has lost her mind!  I can’t see this going very well!  I will give you a full report tomorrow!

I don’t have the guts to eat those kabobs!  Ha!
