It rained off and on most of the day today. Tis the season! We made several trips to town today for various reasons. Zorash called and said that the electricity is going to be off from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. Not just for Yendi, the whole northern part of Ghana is going to be without electricity. We were so happy that she told us; Steve stocked up on diesel so we would have enough to run the generator.
Timothy came to the mission house this morning for a visit. He brought Tichak’s brother with him. Tichak is one of the night watchmen. If you remember earlier this year when the rain first started several people in our area lost the roofs of their houses. Well, Tichak’s brother was one of the people that we helped with the used metal roofing sheets that we took off the mission house. He came back today to bring us a gift and thank us again for helping him when he was in desperate need of help. He said that if we had not helped he still would not have a roof on his house and he would be living with his father. The gift he brought was a guinea fowl (alive) and 7 huge tubers of yams. After he left we gave the guinea fowl and part of the yams to Timothy. After Tichak’s brother left we sat and talked a long time about the work and some of the projects we would like to do this year. We are planning on doing some one day mini-seminars. We will go a village and invite the surrounding villages to come. We will provide some rice, canned tomatoes and oil for a mid-day meal. It should be a great encouragement for those that attend.
While we were talking Timothy told us that he had gotten word that Simeon Kalamba’s 2 ½ year old child died yesterday. Simeon works with the church at Nanjuni. We were so sad to hear that the little boy died. We decided to go immediately to Simeon’s house to give our condolences. As Simeon related the child’s short illness and passing to us we realized that he probably died of malaria. Simeon had taken him to a nearby clinic and then on to Yendi’s hospital when he became critical. By the time they got to the hospital the child had already passed away.
As we were returning from Simeon’s house we met Red, the part time driver, coming from the river in his dump truck. He had a load of sand. He fared better today than he did a couple days ago. It is difficult to get into the river to get the sand because we have had so much rain. Red said that he got stuck; not a little stuck but he buried all four wheels up to the axle. He said that it took them from 8:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon to dig the truck out. He said that no one would try to pull him out because they were afraid that they would get stuck too.
Please keep us and the work in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
