I am going to go ahead and write the Yendi Notes even though we will not be able to send them out.  We could not send out last night’s notes either and we are not sure about tomorrow night.   We are in Accra; we flew down this morning on the earliest flight.

We were very successful this morning at the Ghana Immigration Office.  We had everything they needed to process our resident visa and lots of stuff that they did not need!  We wanted to be safe rather than sorry!  Steve had to have a medical exam as part of the process!  Imagine!  After he finished giving up some of his blood, having his blood pressure and temperature taken, being weighed and measured for height he picked up his receipt and was told to go back to the immigration office. We asked the lady how we could proceed with the application if we did not know if he passed the physical exam; she laughed and said, “He passed!”  I guess everyone passes and the exam is just another way to give someone a job.  We are supposed to go tomorrow and pick up the results of the exam; the immigration officer said that he could pick it up for us and attach it to his application.  Steve paid for both his visa and mine and they picked up our passports to begin processing our application so we guess everything is good to go!  The officer is going to call us tonight and tell us how much the expedited fee and the Fed-ex fee are going to be.  He is going to send our passports by Fed-ex up to Tamale / Yendi.  We are a little concerned about that!

By the time we finished at the immigration office it was time for lunch.  After we dropped our luggage at the hotel/apartment we hired a taxi and went to the Chinese restaurant.

Gomda, the mechanic, called with the price of the new head and brakes for the green truck.  Steve loaded more money on his cell phone and sent the money to him.  He finished the truck last Sunday but he told the guy he bought the head from that he was not going to pay for it until we had a chance to drive it for a week to make sure that the engine was working well.

Solomon also called; he is the motorcycle mechanic that is going to put new pistons and rings in Timothy Niligrini’s motorcycle.  We love the cell phone money!  Steve was able to send him the money for the repairs too!

Take care and please continue to pray for us as we travel around!

The Monkeyshines

I have nothing to say!  I have nothing to do!  I just sit and sit and sit here in solitary confinement!  No one is going to come out and play with me!  No one is going to release me from my jail cell!  Yesterday, I saw that big blue van parked by the door to Mom and Dad’s house and I knew things were only going to go downhill from there!  I was right!  They drove away without a backward glance!  I refused to drink my bottle for Mr. Iddrisu on Sunday because I was so distraught!  At least Mom left lots of good fruits and vegetables for me to snack on and guess what?  I got packets of dried food with dates, cornflakes and coated peanuts!  Yum!

Hurry Home!

Love, Skeeter
