You know how you try to plan for most situations but then you realize that things don’t always go as planned. Let me fill you in. Dahlia, our niece, had expressed her desire to visit us at Yendi. When Jack, our great-nephew found out that Dahlia was coming with us this time for a 3 week visit, asked if he could also come. Kandie and I met Jack at the Huntsville airport as planned. We thought all the paperwork was in order. We flew to Atlanta and then up to JFK airport in New York. When we went to the gate the Delta agent informed us Jack’s visa had expired meaning he could not fly on with us. Several other gate agents had looked at the visa and thought it was valid. Can you see the anxiety starting to build up? We had enough time to get a ticket booked for Jack to fly to Washington-Dulles airport the next morning to be met by his grandfather Rick, Kandie’s brother. Jack had to spend the night in the airport. There is a Ghanaian embassy near where Rick lives. They are in the process of getting an expedited visa so he can join us in a few days the Lord willing.
Our flight was quite bumpy for most of the trip. The turbulences were just enough to keep the flight attendants from giving us our meal on time. All of our bags arrived with us. Red was late getting to the airport but everything worked out fine. We stopped and changed some money and then it was off to the hotel. We grabbed some fried chicken and fried rice at a nearby fast food restaurant and we hit the sack.
This morning Kandie and Dahlia hired a car and driver and left around 6:45 am to travel west along Ghana’s coastline to the town of Elmina to visit the old slave castle and the walkover at Kakum national park. Red and I took the van to an auto a/c repairman to have it fixed. It took them most of the day to get it done. During that time I needed to go to a government office to fill out a registration form and back to the hotel. About 2:30pm I taxied back to the a/c shop and stayed with Red till the van was finished.
Bismark, the driver dropped Kandie and Dahlia off at the Palace Chinese Restaurant in Accra where I was waiting on them for supper. Supper was very good. We had too much food left over.
That is all I have to tell you for now. Please keep us in your prayers.
In His service,
Stephen, Kandie & Dahlia
