At 5:30 this morning Iddrisu called and woke us up out of sleep asking if he could take his holiday so he could spray his field. These people forget that we don’t get up before dawn like they do during Ramadan.
It was a cloudy morning as we were preparing to drive to Bungbali over in the Saboba District. We were happy for the clouds which decreased the heat as we were traveling and while we worshipped. We even thought we might have a full blown rain but there were only a few scattered raindrops before Timothy arrived at 7:15. Today’s trip was a request by the congregation for us to meet with them. We were just there about 1.5 months ago but when the congregation requests our visit we try to accommodate them.
The road is so much better. We arrived early enough to visit some of the people and church members before starting services. The bible class was taught by Brother Simon and I was asked to present the sermon. One of the church leaders prepared a hand written schedule of worship. No computers around this area! For my lesson I chose to use New Testament scriptures that relate to working with weak brethren. It is an easy lesson to teach since all of us have faltered at one time or the other.
After services we didn’t have any questions and answers because the Church wanted to meet with us about some business going on in the congregation. After we finished with the meeting we gave the congregation some cash for two bags of cement to build a buttress on one corner of their building. It is a mud ball, cement plastered building that shows signs of cracking due to a shifting foundation. This corner gets the brunt of the wind and rain. A replastering of the wall is needed as well. The Church will provide the sand and man power to get the job done.
As we were about to leave I remembered we needed to give the chief some kola. He was happy for the money! On the way back to Yendi Kandie asked me to stop, so she could ask if a long narrow rock she has been eyeing for some time could be purchased from its owner but she wasn’t successful.
May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
