Divine stopped by on his way to Tamale this morning and on his way back home this evening. We fixed up a goody bag for Divine’s wife Gladys and the new baby. Gladys is going to be very pleased with the gifts. When we gave them to Divine he said that they were going to cause a problem because one of the church members just had a baby girl one week ago and she is a frequent visitor in Divine’s house and when she see the baby clothes she is going to be jealous. We told Divine not to worry, we would make a goody bag for Gladys’ friend too. We rushed around and gathered clothes, soap, baby powder, hats, socks and baby blankets to put in her gift. Our thanks go out to all of those of you who make clothes, hats, blankets and all sorts of other items for the folks in Ghana.
We spent the morning working on the “Brain for the Work in Ghana”. A couple years ago we decided to make a manual for the running of the Child Center. We thought that if something happened to us another group coming in here would have no idea as to the ends and outs of doing business in Ghana. This morning we worked up the information on the IRS and how to do the monthly and annual taxes. We are still learning and making mistakes but at least we do not make the same mistakes over and over!
Zorash stopped by for a visit this afternoon and she had been successful in getting one of the chiefs to re-sign the land papers. The other chief had gone to Tamale for the day; maybe she can catch up with him tomorrow. In Ghana you never really own the land you just lease it for either 50 or 100 years depending upon who you are. If you are a Ghanaian you qualify for a 99 year lease and if you are an expatriate you only qualify for a 50 year lease. Please! The first time I came to Ghana was in 1970; that was 49 years ago; it seems like I should qualify as a Ghanaian by now! Ha! Steve’s first trip to Ghana was in 1988.
This afternoon we went to town and bought the supplies for the Child Center for the next couple of months. The drug store did not have the proper receipt so we will have to pay the value added tax on that purchase but the hardware store had the receipt.
Thank you for everything you do!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
