You will not believe what we found out last night while Steve was looking over his temporary driver’s license!  On the nationality portion of the driver’s license it said that he was a “Ghanaian”.  Please that would never do!  The police would give him fits at the road barriers and he would have a problem at the bank when he went to cash a check.  As bad as we hated it we knew that we had to make another trip to Tamale today.  We got up early and left the house a few minutes after 7:00 this morning.  It takes almost 2 hours to get to Tamale.  We sat in the motor vehicle office for a long time before they figured out what to do.  In the end Steve had to buy another driver’s license and yes he had to pay full price for it even though the mistake was not ours.  His old driver’s license had him listed as an American.  The guy that took his money said that if they did not charge him for the new license his big boss would think that he had issued a new license to a friend and he would be in trouble.  Whatever!  By this time we are so ready to get the temporary license and get out of there that we would have willingly paid twice the amount!  Several hours later we were headed back to Yendi.

On our way to Yendi this morning we came upon the remains of a terrible accident.  A big metro bus that can hold 50 or 60 people collided with a smaller 33 passenger bus.  There was nothing much left of the smaller bus.  People were still there digging through the wreckage.  As we passed through Kulkpeni we stopped to talk to Timothy.  He asked if we passed a wreck on our way in.  He said that he knew it must have been a bad wreck because the ambulance kept passing by his house during the night.  When we got to the mission house Nazo had a little more information on the wreck.  He said one of the buses was filled with the senior students who came to Yendi to set for their exit exams.  He said that he heard that all the students were killed.  He will find out more when he goes to the palace this evening.

Zorash came to work today to make up one of the days she missed earlier in the week. Nazo was late for work this morning because it was drizzling so we did not see him before we left to let him know that Zorash was coming and what we wanted her to do so we left a note for them hanging on the outside of Mr. Iddrisu’s office door.  When Zorash came to work Nazo said that the red truck was gone and he thought we had gone to Tamale again.  He sent Zorash on her way.  He never saw the note until 12:00 when he stopped working to take a bath before he went to pray.  Nazo is a Muslim.  She will come tomorrow.

Today was Yendi’s big market day.  It rained a little last night and drizzled the rest of the night and all day today.  The weather was so pleasant!

Take care and keep us in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
