Dawda, the mason appeared out of the “blue” this morning.  He said he had come to plot the building site.  We had not told him that we were ready for him to start the building project.  Evidently Red told him that he had hauled all the gravel, sand and blocks to the job site.  If we had known he was coming we would have already bought the cement.  As soon as he marked off the building he had the diggers start digging the footer.  No backhoes for us; just men with brute strength.  The sun was brutal today; there was no Harmattan in the sky.  I felt sorry for those men working in that heat.  The high temperature today was 110 degrees with a heat index of 129 degrees.  We sent lots of water for them to drink.  The place where we are putting the 4 room building is on the very back end of the mission property.  We put it near an electric pole so we would not have to buy an electric pole if and when we electrify the building.  There is also going to be a veranda running the full length of the building.

Red stopped by at noon and we contracted him to make the metal doors, door frames and metal windows for the building.  He said that he was happy to have the work because right now he cannot haul sand because the sand bars that they harvest the sand from are still under water.  He will have more work later in the dry season.

Steve made a couple trips to the job site with the motor king but the clutch went out.  Solomon the motorcycle mechanic came to the mission house and put in a new clutch plate.  It is running well for the moment.  Mr. Iddrisu will drive it tomorrow; hauling cement, people and stuff back and forth.

Abdulganu, a young man that lost his right leg, I think in a vehicle accident came to the house to greet us.  He wants to get an artificial leg but he is young and not all that serious about getting it done.  We promised to help him when he finds out the cost and when he can go to get fitted for the prosthetics.  The Covid has slowed everything down and many of the institutions that help have been closed for a while.  Hopefully before long he can schedule an appointment.

Ghana’s Covid numbers are climbing as they are in many parts of the world.  The president has called for stricter adherence to the world health protocol.  He is trying to keep from shutting things down again.

Take care and please continue to pray for our niece Tera, her caregivers and family.  They need your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
