The electricity has been off all day!  Not only has it been off all day it was off for most of the night.  No one knows why it is off.  They put a new pole in the back field in August.  They told Nazo that they were going to put in another transformer.  We are not sure if the transformer will be helpful for us or if it will feed the houses beyond us.   Naturally we hope that it will feed us and help stabilize our electricity.

Meri did not come to work today because her brother’s wife died.  That could mean it was really a cousin’s wife or even her uncle’s wife.  They call everyone in their extended family their sister or brother.  We will have to wait until Monday to find out who really died.

The ladies roasted corn all morning.  They were really struggling keeping their fires going so Steve cut up an old worm eaten 1×12 and made kindling for them.  It seemed to do the trick.  They only had a few pieces left so we will have to hunt around for something else for them to burn.  A good portion of the wood has been put inside one of the small round houses to keep it dry.

This afternoon Steve and I made diaper rash ointment.  We made over 200 containers.  We would have made more but we ran out of baby powder but that will be enough to last us the rest of the month.  We make the ointment from shea butter and baby powder.  We went to the market and bought more powder to have on hand for the next batch.

We did not get to grind weaning mix today because the electricity was off.  We will try again tomorrow.  Zorash is no longer grinding at her mill because the cost of the electricity is so high that she made no money after paying her bill so we have to go to one of the other grinding mills to get our weaning mix made.

We woke this morning to the sound of gunfire.  Someone important had died.  When someone dies they shoot guns to let everyone in the community know that someone has passed away.  It is a rather frightening way to be woken up.

Take care and have a great day.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie

P.S.  Please pray for our friends, Jimmy and Mary Stroud, they were on vacation out west; Jimmy fell and is in the hospital; he did not break anything and hopes to be released soon.
