The electric company does not put street lights on the poles leading to the houses.  They do not mind if the home owner puts up street lights if they want them.  The electric company will bear the cost of the electricity once they are put up but they will not pay for the lights, the installation or the repairs.  We have a street light on the pole leading into the mission compound.  It seems to need repairs more than any of our other lights.  Two days ago Tichak, one of the watchmen told us the light would not come on.  The next morning Papa the other watchman told us it would not come on.  Then amazingly it came on last night but once we turned it off this morning it would not come back on.  Steve checked the switch for a short but there was not one.  Later this afternoon Shiabu, the electrician came and pronounced the light dead; well it could be repaired but there were no parts in Yendi.  Steve decided to put up 2 smaller lights instead.  When it gets dark he will have to climb the ladder and set the lights so they brighten up as much of the front yard as possible.

We made several trips to town today.  We needed plastic sheeting to cover the bookcases, tables and anything that we do not want to be covered with dust when we come back.  We made another trip to buy more waterproof paint and paint brushes.  The paint is a coal tar base and dries very quickly to gummy consistency.  The brushes can only be used one day; luckily the brushes are not too expensive.  In fact the brushes are cheaper than turpentine.

I bought more dried onions than I am going to be able to use before we leave for the states so I decided to slice up a bunch of them and make French onion soup for lunch.  It was very tasty; sweeter than I thought it would be.  I have heard that onions have lots of sugar and today’s soup was proof of that.

We spent a good portion of the day gathering up the tools and other items we used for the building project and put away.  It was amazing how much lumber and nails we had left over.  We will use them for the next project!

Mr. Oldman our neighbor stopped by for a visit; he brought his little girl; she is between 2 and 3 years old.    She is very afraid of us because we are white.  He is trying to get her used to seeing us.  Steve gave her some cookies which she was quick to grab.  It won’t take her long to get used to us.

Thank you for the prayers and support.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
