This morning, we took a different route when we went for our morning walk. Our neighbor, Mr. Oldman’s wife, had a baby last Thursday and today was the Naming Ceremony. A Naming Ceremony is like a baby shower. It is also the day that the baby is circumcised, the baby receives their first haircut and the umbilical cord is buried by the baby’s aunts, if it has come off. We decided that since we were going to the naming ceremony anyway, we would walk around the perimeter of the mission property and come up on the east side and stop in at Mr. Oldman’s house to pay our respects and to see the new baby. We took a handmade diaper bag, powder, baby soap, socks, several outfits, a blanket and a packet of disposable diapers. Thanks to all the ladies that supply things for the babies and children. Of course, we had to add a little money on top of the gift. Traditionally, food is prepared for the visitors that come to the Naming Ceremony but today they are still fasting so no food had to be prepared. I guess if the guests are still around when the sun goes down, they will have to prepare something for them to eat.
Steve spent part of the morning working on the books and getting a head start on entering the receipts for March. He needs to be careful; if he gets too good at that job it will become his permanently! Ha!
Divine called this morning and he was able to sort out the problem with the church’s paperwork. We are just happy that we caught the mistake before it was sent off and found by someone else and attracted penalties! Divine’s new cell phone that has WhatsApp is a blessing. We helped him buy the phone; it is the best 50 dollars we have spent in a long time!
This afternoon we discovered a piece of tin on the garage that has come loose and makes a rattling noise when the wind blows. Steve thinks he can climb on the roof and nail it back down. While we were looking at the roof Steve noticed branches from a mango tree and a palm tree that were rubbing the roof of the garage so he got the ladder and pruners and attacked the trees.
It has been terribly hot again today but something has happened to our weather station and it is not working. It makes me sad because I really like to be able to look at the thermometer and see why I am so hot! I especially like to know what the heat index is.
The thermometer said that it was 89 degrees all day long; it never changed. Steve changed the batteries and that still did not help.
Have fun!

When Dad cut down the branches from the mango tree, Mom harvested them and fill the bottom half of my jail cell with the branches. I am excited! It is like walking through a jungle! The branches are covered with mango leaves. I love picking through the leaves looking for spider nests; I really enjoy catching and eating the spiders. I even eat the spider webs. Delicious stuff! I also strip the bark off the branches! I eat a few of the leaves and bits and pieces of the bark. The bark and leaves have lots of micronutrients that I need for good health! I hope you are all eating your bark and leaves!
When Dad took my new food out to put in my jail cell, he said that I had barely touched my food from yesterday. I have been out of jail almost all day and when I am out, I do not eat the jailhouse food! I eat from the kitchen! Mom feeds me all day long! On the days that they travel, I eat everything that is in my bowl and wish I had more!
I did have to go to time-out this morning for biting Mom on her heel! I only do this when she turns to leave; there is something about that white leg that I just can’t resist! I am like that man in Tamale, “I admire your leg!” I did not make her bleed but I had to go to time-out anyway!
No time-out tomorrow!
Love, Skeete
