Osman came to spray the trees this morning. The trees on the mission property have a new problem. They seem to have fire blight. Steve started pruning out the bad places yesterday. Two of our neighbors have lost large mangos. The mangos are not the only trees that are being affected. The cashew and the ornamental trees are also dropping leaves. We are most worried about the big mango trees. Perhaps pruning will help.
Zorash came to work today to make up one of her extra days off earlier in the week. We worked in the Child Center. We bought vinyl material and covered the tables and shelves. Everything looked so nice and clean when we finished. Mr. Oldman our neighbor dropped by to say hi! He stayed to help us cover the tables. We never turn down an extra pair of hands.
Aminu, the hardware sales man also came to the mission house this morning. He brought his son with him. His son is about 3 or 4 years old. He is usually at the store with his father when we buy supplies but this is the first time he has come to the mission house so he was feeling a little shy. You should have seen his eyes light up when we gave him a small bag of candy and chewing gum. From now on he will be harassing his father to bring him back!
We spent part of the afternoon sorting tools. We have been trying to get everything organized for the past week but it seems like something always comes up like multiple trips to Tamale! We made good head way on it this afternoon. Around 3:00 we took the pliers, wire cutters and wire to the back of the property to re-secure the razor wire. Someone unwired the razor wire and laid it on the ground and put a stone on it so it would be easier for the people to crawl over the cement wall. It is so exasperating having to put the wire back up. This time we ran an extra wire down through the middle of the razor wire and secured the wire with heavier wire. It will be difficult to remove the wire without the aid of pliers. Maybe this will secure the property for a little while. Nazo lives on the other side of the wall he says he thinks they come in when he goes to the palace in the evenings. The wall is big, it surrounds about 8 acres. We only got ¾ of one side secured this afternoon. We worked on the place the people had been climbing over. It was so hot out there while we were working; I thought I was going to expire! Ha! The high for today was 105 degrees.
A little while ago we went to town and got the bicycle tires and tubes for the evangelists/church leaders’ class at the end of the month. A couple times a year we give the men that come to class new tires and tubes for their bicycles. Many of them ride their bicycles to class.
Steve is outside loading benches in the back of the truck for our trip tomorrow to visit the 6 churches that Nana Bekum works with.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
