It rained lightly most of the night. At 3:00am I got up and walked around the house and outside on the verandas with my flashlight to see if we stopped the leaks. Well we only had partial success. The biggest leak on the veranda had stopped but there were smaller leaks that just did not make sense because we thought the gutter was overflowing causing the leaks but last night it only rained softly and the mason had opened 2 more down spouts which let the water get away quickly. The leak inside the house was just as bad as always. While I was outside in the middle of the night I found a goat sleeping on the veranda beside the night watchman! I made the watchman chase the goat away. This morning I climbed up the ladder to take a look at the gutters. I think that the problem is not an overflowing problem but it is a flashing problem. The flashing only covers the first row of blocks. There is a crack between the layers of block that was not plastered over. I think that if we added another layer of metal flashing under the existing flashing it will take care of the problem. Steve agreed to try. We are not sure that we can get Dawda the mason to understand what we want done so we are going to see if Red will do the job for us.
Asana rode her new handicapped tricycle out to the mission house around noon. One of her brothers helped push her over the difficult parts of the road. Her mother and 2 of her other brothers walked to the mission house. They were supposed to come earlier in the morning but we had order kuleekulee from her mother and she said that it took her longer than she expected to make it. Kuleekulee is the solid by-product from extracting the oil from the peanuts. We give it to the children that come to the Child Center; it is a great source of protein. Asana is so proud of her tricycle. She did not go to school today but she is going to go tomorrow and show it off. Mr. Alhassan the social welfare officer was not able to come to the mission house to meet Asana but the social welfare department is having a meeting on Saturday and Asana’s mother said now that she has the tricycle she will be able to attend the meeting and will meet Mr. Alhassan there.
Mr. Iddrisu did not come to work today. He is out in Kpamang organizing the transport of his corn from the field to his house. They got it all picked over the weekend but the ground was too wet for the tractor to get in to the field. Timothy Niligrini, the evangelist, is having the same problem with his corn. It has been picked and is sitting in the field waiting for dryer weather.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support! We appreciate all your help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
