We spent the day in Tamale. We left this morning at 6:00 and just got back a few minutes ago around 4:30. We have to go back again tomorrow. Please! Go and Come! Hurry up and wait! That is the story of our lives. Zorash went with us to Tamale because we needed an interpreter and she knew where we were going.
We had a very successful morning but not so much success this afternoon. Our first stop was at the secretary of the chief. We needed both the secretary and the chief to sign some documents for us. We were treated very graciously by the secretary. We had never met him before but he was a very nice guy. After he signed he showed us where we were supposed to sign and then we proceeded to the chief’s house. The chief is an old friend of ours. We did not get to the palace before he had opened it to the public. We had to sit through a meeting he had with another chief before we were able to talk to him. We were given a tour of the palace and we met up with his senior wife who is also a good friend. They had been doing some repairs to the rooms in the palace and they were very proud of all they had accomplished. Everything looked very nice but there was still a lot to do. They allowed me to take pictures; which is always a bonus for me. Some of the women were in the kitchen frying Maiza which is a fried fritter type thing that is made from millet, flour, mashed bananas and a little bit of sugar. Of course they wanted us to try the Maiza and then they gave us some to take home. We re-gifted them to Zorash.
From the palace we went to the Stool House to pay the property tax on the mission property. We had to pay 2 years because we thought that the tax was due at the end of the year and it is really due at the first of the year so we had to pay for 2018 and 2019. It did not cost much only about 50 dollars a year.
We had to pay the lawyer before we were able to go to the Land Commission where they extract more money from us. There had never been a deed / title search done on the mission property. The guy that was helping us said that it would be advisable to do the search just to make sure that no one else had been sold the same piece of property. They told us that it would take about 2 weeks to do the search unless we wanted to pay for expediting the process. Well, yes we wanted to do it as quickly as possible. Nothing moves very fast in Ghana but the guy doing the search was quick about it. Before we made it back to Yendi his secretary called to say that the deed search was completed. We are going to go back tomorrow and pick up the document and proceed to the next step. Which we are sure will entail more money! Ha!
We introduced Zorash to French fries for lunch. She thought they were delicious and she loved the ketchup! Life’s simple pleasures!
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
