Divine called so early this morning that he woke us up. I hate to be woken up by the phone ringing; it scares me and I immediately wonder what awful thing has happened! Divine had come into Yendi to pick up the masons that were going to do the plastering on the school kitchen at Kpamang. He wanted to get some money from Steve to buy some meat and ingredients for the food they would be feeding the workers. It is the custom to feed the people who you hire to work. We don’t like to cook for the masons and carpenters when we hire them so we give them “chop” money so they can buy whatever they want to eat. The problem is that in the village there are no vendors selling food. Divine’s wife Gladys was going to cook for the men. We expected him to come back this afternoon and get the money to pay them but he did not. The mason would not give him a price for the labor because he said he would not know how much to charge until they had finished the work.
Zorash came to work today to make up the day she took off earlier in the week. We spent the morning making ointment for ringworm and rashes. We made 1080 containers of ointment. We wanted to make enough to last for the next 6 months. Later this afternoon we went to Zorash’s house and bought 7 ½ gallons of shea butter. The shea butter is at its cheapest price right now; we like to buy it while it is cheap so we can save a little money.
Steve needed to buy supplies for the Child Center so while we were in town getting passport pictures made we went to the pharmacy and bought the medicine. They did not have the quantity that we needed but we went ahead and paid for it and in a few days when the new shipment comes in they will deliver it to the mission house.
We had to have passport pictures made for our resident visa renewal and for the renewal of our non-citizen’s cards. The non-citizen’s card is a joke. It has to be renewed every year and it is supposed to be used as a form of identification in the place of a driver’s license or a passport. We are yet to find anyone that will accept it.
Thank you for all the love, prayers and support. We appreciate all you do for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
