It rained most of the night and it rained several times today.  Donkey said that the rain was so heavy last night that the water got up into his house.  It has done that in past years and we have given him loads of gravel to make a dam around his house but somehow, he never gets around to spreading the gravel and diverting the water.  He said the water was threatening to get up into his toilet pit / outhouse so he had to go out in the rain and shut the door.  Traditionally September is the month that we get the most rain.  Everyone was worrying that the rains were not coming but they are here now!  How long they will stay is anyone’s guess.

Since it was raining today Donkey could not rake leaves so we set him to shelling peanuts.  Divine had given us peanuts last week when he brought us the corn we bought for the Child Center.  We will roast the peanuts and make PPP (peanut protein paste) for the malnourished children.  The PPP is a combination of peanut paste, sugar, powdered milk and iodized salt; the peanuts naturally have lots of oil.  It is a wonderful plant-based protein supplement for the malnourished children.  They can eat it straight but usually the mothers mix it with their cereal or spread it on yams.

Today is Yendi’s big market day; I asked Donkey what the vendors will do; he said that no matter if it rains or not the vendors will come.  They travel from village to village selling their goods.  The problem is that they ride in open motor kings and large cargo trucks.  It seems like by the time they got here through the heavy rain that all the clothes, electronics, and grain would be wet and not fit to sell.  We did not go to the market because about the time everything dried off the rain started again.  I did not need anything bad enough to risk getting drowned in the market!  Ha!

Steve finished one of his continuing education classes that he has to do to renew both his Ghanaian and American nursing licenses.  He does the classes online somehow.  The class he finished this afternoon was on infertility.  He said it was very interesting.  He has a couple more to do before the March deadline.

I got to sew some today but I did not get as much accomplished as I wanted to but I can still sew later tonight.

Take care,

The Monkeyshines

I spent a horrible night again last night!  I barely got any sleep!  I was so happy when I saw Mom coming out to my cage this morning!  I do not do well in storms and this one was a particularly noisy storm!  I took a lot of naps today!  I was still anxious after the night’s activities!  I would not let the parents get out of my sight!  I napped this afternoon with Mom; she did not get much sleep last night either!  After our nap I climbed in her dress and hung out while she sewed!  When she tried to put me down, I threw a big fit and hung on to her dress for dear life!  I knew if I ever let go of her, I would go back to my jail cell and I was putting that off as long as I could!

We are out of bananas!  Bananas are my “go to” fruit!  How could we be out of bananas?  How does that happen?  The market is full of them and Mom said she would buy some when she went to the market but she did not go today because of the rain.  She decided that I would be happy with a boiled green plantain!  Excuse me!  I like plantain but a boiled green plantain does not even resemble a juicy ripe banana!  The parents have to drive through town 4 times tomorrow when they are going to and from worship; surely on one of these trips they will stop and buy bananas!

Bananas for sale, Bananas for sale! Yes, we have bananas!
