Divine was here again this morning when we got up. This is the second day for the masons to work on the school kitchen. This morning he said they needed another trip of sand and 2 more bags of cement. He said that he would carry the cement and the masons out on the first trip and the sand on the second trip. He explained that the sand was so heavy that it caused his clutch plates to burn the last time that he hauled and he had to have it worked on. We told him that we would just buy the sand and haul it in the old truck. There is not an end loader at the place where we buy the sand and gravel. They sell it by the 55 gallon drum. It is loaded by man power. The 55 gallon drum has no bottom. The men put the barrel in the back of the truck; load the barrel and then lift it off the sand; it falls out into the truck bed. It is a pretty good way of measuring the sand. This morning 2 men loaded the truck; we paid them each 5 Cedis for loading; 5 Cedis about 1 dollar. That was 2 dollars well spent! As we were driving out to Kpamang to unload the sand we saw a new welding shop. The guy had a couple metal doors sitting outside for sale. He was asking 250 Cedis per door. That is 100 Cedis cheaper than we have been paying. The door on the room the church worships in at Kpamang has fallen out of the frame because the termites ate the frame. We bought the door and put it on top of the sand. Divine was very happy with the door and he said that he was going to have the mason install the door when he finished the plastering. There are 3 other doors and 3 windows that need to be replaced.
On our trip back to the mission house we stopped and contracted with the welder to make the rest of the doors and windows for the building. We will have Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo paint them before we take them out to Kpamang.
This afternoon Steve cut down a Nim tree that is on the outside of the cement wall. The tree was too close to the wall. Later he plans to dig around the tree and salt the roots so it will really die. He also trimmed one of the bushes in front of the house that has some sort of bug infestation and a fungal problem. He then sprayed it. We still have at least one month of rains so that should give the bush time to bush back out. While he was working he took a tumble and bruised his shoulder; he seems to be fine but he will feel it tomorrow!
Nazo rakes the yard every morning. He not only picks up the leaves he also picks up a good portion of gravel. He then dumps the gravel and leaves on the back part of the property and burns them. Over the years he has made a huge pile of gravel. We cannot get him to realize that he is the one that is carrying all the gravel to the burn pile. Anyway we set Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo to moving the gravel. We are having them back fill against the cement wall around the property. The erosion is terrible and in places the footer is being exposed.
Take care and have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
