We are only going to have a few more days to give away mangos because the mangos left hanging on the tree are looking sparse. We picked up 218 today; we would have had more but when Red and his helper closed for the day they picked up everything that had fallen in the afternoon while we were sorting files and re-organizing all the tax documents we had pulled out to bring Nana Bekum up to date. We distributed them this afternoon. A couple of the people we wanted to give them to were not around; maybe we will have mangos to give out again tomorrow.
First thing this morning Steve hooked up the big sprayer and we started spraying the property. This is the first time that we have used the big sprayer. We brought the sprayer over here to spray the mango trees when they had the problem with a bug infestation 5 or 6 years ago; only to figure out that the big mango trees were far too tall for the spray to reach the top. Nazo, the day man usually does the spraying for us but he is on leave for three weeks and we know that if we don’t spray quickly the grass will start going to seed. Steve has a plastic 55 gallon drum that the sprayer is connected to. The sprayer runs off of a car battery. We not only wanted to spray the yard around the mission house to keep the snakes at bay but we also wanted to spray the area around the cement wall that the tractor cannot plow. In years past the grass has grown as tall as me; talk about giving the snakes a place to hide! We have really tall grass in our area; some of it is suitable to make thatch for roofs. We were doing well with the spraying; we had finished the yard and were almost halfway around the wall. I was driving the truck and Steve was walking behind spraying as we went. I smelled something getting hot, I told Steve that I thought the clutch was getting too hot; all the vehicles we have are manuals; I was riding the clutch pretty hard with all the starting and stopping. It was only a few minutes later that I had no clutch. We waited for a little while to give it time to cool down. When we tried it again it was back to working. We could still smell something hot. We drove the truck back to the mission house and let it sit. We took it to town this afternoon and it seemed to do fine. It has not been long since the mechanic put a new clutch in for us. The new clutch has never been just right; it is very soft and goes clear to the floor board. Maybe he can make an adjustment on it. He is going to check it out tomorrow morning.
Red is still working hanging the razor wire. They have been working on it for 3 days and they have not made it to the halfway mark yet.
Thank you for the love prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
