Today we went to visit the Church at the village of Sakpei. The village is about 60 minutes northeast of Yendi. I was glad the old green pickup ran fine; all the tires stayed round (no flats). 🙂
When we arrived at the village Kandie was happy to see the congregation had started to gather under the Nim tree behind the building. It was much cooler having a slight breeze than being cooped up in a small building with 120 people.
I try to accommodate the congregation’s request for a particular subject for my lesson. The purpose of our visit is to exhort and teach what is needful. This morning when we arrived the brethren asked me to teach a lesson about church leadership. Kandie helps me keep a 3 ring notebook full of my old lessons that I carry with us for just such an occasion. I remember what our late friend John Kanbonja use to say; “A preacher has to ready anytime to preach at any time”. I discussed what every Christian needs to be able to do to help the Church whether being a leader or a great follower. After the lesson several men verbalized their appreciation for the lesson.
As usual we had the question and answer period after services. I also took a few minutes at the end of that period to discuss the need for the people to know about good hand washing and changing eating habits if the corona virus comes to our area. It is custom to eat out of the communal bowl and drink from the same cup mostly due to customs.
We visited the chief at his house. Joseph, the church leader that usually comes to class, was absent from services. The brothers told us he was sick so we also stopped at his house. I gave him some money and Timothy had prayer for him. One of the sisters had a boil on her left forearm. She didn’t have money to renew her national insurance scheme so we also helped her with some money.
On our way back to Yendi we stopped at the church building at Bitamado. The building sets beside the Gnani Road. The congregation is changing the village name so we stopped to take down the Church’s sign board to take to Yendi to be repainted. After leaving we came upon a man pushing his motorcycle. I stopped to find out what was wrong. He had taken food to his sister who is a student far away but his money ran out when his sister said she needed some additional materials for school. He hoped he had enough gasoline to make the trip but he was wrong. Timothy and I helped the man put the motorcycle in the bed of the truck and we headed for Yendi.
This afternoon was spent looking for more metal for Red to use in making the gutter crossover at the end of the lane.
Hope you had a great Lord’s Day. We will keep everyone in our prayers. God is in control! God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
