Divine just left. He is working on some papers for some of the churches and he needed us to make photo copies for him. He came by last night for some photocopies too. The ones he needed last night were for an application for national service when he graduates later this year. The way things are in Ghana you are required to work for the government for 1 year after you graduate before you can apply for a full time position. This is to help cover part of the expenses the government incurred from your education. Of course you do your national service in the field in which you were trained. Divine is getting his teacher’s certificate so he will be posted to a school somewhere. Naturally he hopes that the school he is posted to the school he started several years ago in his home village of Kpamang.
Gomda, the mechanic called this afternoon to let us know that he had arrived safely in Kumasi. He might be able to come back to Yendi on tonight’s bus. I am not sure what he will do if he has to stay another night in Kumasi. What a long trip for such a short amount of time. I would hate to know that I had to ride in a bus full of people all night long. I would be up front talking to the driver and plying him with food to make sure that he stayed awake!
This morning we got a visit from a young Christian woman named Gifty. We have known Gifty for several years. Her husband used to be one of the church leaders but he took a second wife. Gifty has never been able to have children and that is the reason her husband took a second wife. He fully expected Gifty to stay with him and accept the polygamist relationship but she left him. She desperately wants to have children. She is presently seeking medical help for her problem. It is so important in this society to have children. Those that cannot have children are ostracized. While we were talking to Gifty this morning we found out something about Nazo, the day man that we did not know. He said that his wife was married to another man before she married him. He said that her first husband sent her back to her family after 10 years of marriage because she had not had any children. He married another lady. Nazo and Amina have had 6 children. We also did not know that Nazo and his wife lost a set of twin girls. Nazo told Gifty all these things to encourage her to keep on keeping on.
Thank you for all you do for us and for the work. We really appreciate the help, without your help we could not do the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
