We were treated to some traditional Ghanaian breakfast foods this morning. We had koshi (a fritter made with black-eyed peas), roufban (a fried cornmeal ball, similar to a hushpuppy, but much larger), and bofruit (another fried bread ball made with yeast and rice flour, similar to a doughnut but not as sweet). All were good, but the bofruit was the favorite for both Perry and I.
After breakfast, Perry and Steve went to the construction site at Kulkpeni, where the seminar will be held next week. They installed all of the remaining vent pipes on the new toilets. I believe that the construction effort has now been completed, except for the site clean-up which the Kulkpeni church members will do in the next few days.
Kandie, Zorash (the interpreter), and I left early for the market. We had a very large list of all the food which needed to be bought for next week’s seminar. It was quite an undertaking, as almost every item had to be purchased from different vendors. After three hours in the heat, I was really wishing for Insta-cart, or Costco, or even a Walmart Supercenter where we could buy everything from one store, and preferably an air-conditioned one. We bought rice, dried beans, dried fish, tomatoes, onions, garlic, powdered creamer, chocolate powder, nutmeg, fresh ginger root and powdered ginger, curry powder, sugar, tapioca, soybeans, plantains, palm oil, hot pepper, scrubbers for washing the cooking pots, mosquito coils and matches, sticky traps – I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things but you get the idea. The truck bed was packed completely full, along with every available inch of space in the cab. We drove all of the food out to Kulkpeni, where it was unloaded and stored for next week.
This evening, we traveled to Nadundo for night service. We sang, had prayer, and then Perry preached and Timothy interpreted. There were 30 – 35 people in attendance (along with the requisite dog). We sat on benches outside the church building where it was cooler. There were no lights. Perry used a flashlight to see his notes. By the end of the service, it was completely dark, but there were certainly fewer bugs tonight. After the 45-minute drive home, we had dinner and are now wrapping up for the night.
Thanks so much for your support of the work, and the prayers for our safety.
