We are back from Tamale. We just got the van unloaded. We left the mission house this morning at 6:30 and it is 6:35pm; now that is a full day!
We were not able to get the truck’s paperwork changed from a 3.2 cc engine to a 2.7cc because the inspector did not come to work today and we did not have a letter prepared to let them know that we had changed the engine. We had no choice but to pay the additional “luxury fee” if we wanted to drive the truck legally. If we decided to just let the truck sit until the next time we came to Ghana we would have incurred late fees and penalties. Steve thought it best to back our ears and pay the additional fees this year. Next year we will have more time to write them a letter and get hold of the inspector.
We got all of our other business taken care of and I even had time to do a little shopping at the cultural center. Lots of fun for me; not so fun for Steve; he mostly follows me around gathering up the things that I buy and making trips back to the truck. I would hate to come back to the states with empty suitcases!
We stopped and ordered rubber stamps today. The Ghanaian government has decided that every business should have an official rubber stamp so we had a couple more made today. The people that make the rubber stamps hand cut each letter out of an inner tube and glue it to a homemade wooden stamp. It is amazing how good they look. We will pick the stamps up in a couple weeks.
When we passed through Tamale we noticed a new building; it was a KFC! Yes, a Kentucky Fried Chicken; same logo; same restaurant sign! Can you imagine? We were so surprised! There is one in the capital city of Accra but in Tamale; we must be coming up in the world! We did not stop and try it but maybe we will next time we have to go to Tamale on business.
Take care and continue to pray for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
