Steve just rushed in to get the camera.  He found the most unusual bug.  It looked like a cross between a large wasp/ beetle/ a moth.  It had a snout that was almost as long as his body.  It had wings like a beetle that could fold down.  We could not get a good picture of it outside because it was hanging on the gate which is green with lots of dirt.  The bug was sort of camouflaged on the gate.  We brought him in the house and took a bunch of pictures.  It is always difficult to take a picture of something that is moving; reminds me of trying to take pictures of the grandkids.  All six of them are sitting there but there never seems to be a time when they are all looking at the camera and not making a funny face or looking around.  By the time the photo session is over it seems like there is always someone that is crying!

Zorash did not come to work today; she is volunteering with the polio distribution program.  Steve went to his continuing education class this morning at the hospital.  He said that next week’s topic is going to be polio.  He said that they have found several cases of polio in our area.  Scary stuff especially when they thought that it was irradiated.

Anthony, one of the men that graduated from the preacher training school in Tamale stopped by for a visit today.  He is trying to finish the dowry on his marriage but the girl’s family is being difficult and they are demanding a lot of money.  He might not be able to gather it all together until next year.  He planted yams this year but they have not been harvested.  Maybe if he can get a good price for them he will have enough money to satisfy the girl’s family.  They are asking for 2,500 Cedis which is about 500 dollars.  That is a lot of money when you consider the minimum wage is 2 dollars a day.  He also has a brother that is attending school and in danger of being kicked out if he does not pay his school fees.  Steve plainly told him that it was more important to finish his marriage than to pay for his brother’s schooling.  Anthony is going to come on Saturday and do some manual labor at the mission house to make a little money.  Hope he is able to do hard work because we are hiring him to dig up the soak away from the septic tank; remove all the big rocks; clean out the dirt that has run in from the erosion and put the rocks back in.  Job #114 that I don’t want!  Ha!

Please keep our good friends Don and Lynette in your prayers.  Lynette’s father passed away.  We know they would appreciate your prayers during this difficult time.

Hope you have a lovely day!  The high temperature today was 106 degrees – heat index 137.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
