Mr. Alhassan, the social welfare man for our area stopped by for a visit this morning.  He bought Beebee with him.   Beebee is a young girl about 11 years old.  We had never met her but we had helped her get reconstructive surgery last year.  When Beebee was about 2 or 3 years old her not mentally sound mother decided to bathe her with some special herbs.   She did not wait for the boiling water to cool before she sat Beebee in the hot water.  Beebee had extensive burns between her legs and buttock.  The burns healed but over time the burns made terrible scares and Beebee found it very difficult to urinate.  About 2 years ago the family tried to get the surgery, they even went to Kumasi to the big hospital but they could not afford the surgery so they came back home.  Since that time both of her parents have died and her aunt and uncle are taking care of her.  At the end of 2016 Alhassan came to work in our area.  He came to the Child Center to introduce himself and find out what the Center was all about.  He told us about a Beebee, her need for surgery, her family’s poverty, and social welfare’s struggle to try to find the money for the surgery.  We had some money available for “whatever comes up” thanks to our faithful donors; we decided to help.  The surgery was more costly than originally estimated so we made a second contribution for the surgery and we also gave money for transportation and food because we knew the recovery would take a long time.  Beebee came this morning with her uncle to thank us for the help we gave.  We in turn sent their thanks on to you.  She has not started back to school yet so this morning we gave some money for a school uniform and a backpack.

This morning Steve put a new top on a desk we uncovered during all the moving.  After he put on the plywood top we covered the plywood with vinyl and carried it down to the Child Center.  Mr. Iddrisu did not have a desk to sit at; he only had a small table.  We traded the table for a desk.  The vinyl cover will be easy to clean if something gets spilled on it.  Meri and Zorash think we should cover the other desks!

This afternoon we started working on the books for the Child Center’s upcoming audit.  We only got the month of January finished.  Once we get the Excel spread sheet set up it will go much faster.

Today was Yendi’s big market day and we did not forget to go to the market.   It was hot in the market; the high today was 110 degrees.

Take care and thank you for all your help!

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
