Nazo, the day man, told us that his wife had been seriously sick the past couple of days and that he took her to the clinic near the mission house only to find he did not have enough money to buy her medicine. She has hypertension and she also had malaria; she must have been dehydrated because they gave her 4 bags of IV fluids. Nazo begged the doctor and the pharmacist to allow them to take the medicine on credit with a promise to pay for the drugs when we got here today. We were more than happy to pay for the medicine. We even sent a monetary gift to the doctor and pharmacist to show that we appreciated their kindness.
We made several trips to town today. We had to buy groceries which means running from one little shop to another to get all the things we needed.
Red, the part time driver / welder/ mechanic/ handyman, came to the mission house to get instructions on a couple projects that we need him to do. We decided that we want to try and make some “forever” communion trays for the congregations. The ones we are presently using are made of plastic; they are nice but the plastic is brittle and they break if they are dropped. Red is going to make a sample of a metal one. If we like the design we will have him make one for each of the churches.
While we were gone a stranger climbed over the cement wall at the Child Center and took up residency in one of the round houses. Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo chased him out of the compound but he came back. They locked all the buildings. They thought that he was a crazy man; he might very well have been crazy but it seems he was also a thief. He had broken into another house in the community. The police caught him but we doubt he will stay in prison long. Red made a metal spiked thing to put on top of the wall where he was climbing over. We don’t think the metal thing will stop someone from climbing over; we are going to hang some razor wire from the wall. This wall is already 7 or 8 feet tall so the razor wire should work well. We commissioned Red to make the metal pieces that will be cemented into the wall to hang the wire on.
Something was wrong with the rear wheel of the truck. We took it to Gomda the mechanic and he thinks a bearing is going out; are we surprised with these rough roads? No!
Nazo could not get the air compressor started so we took it to Mr. Adams, “The Fix-it Man” and he cleaned it and got it running.
Hope you have a great day!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
