Kandie and I worked at the Child Center this morning. We saw about 35 babies. One grandmother came in with a set of twins who were only a few months old. They were adorable. Her daughter (the mother of the babies) died when they were only two weeks old, as a result of a C-Section that did not heal properly. It is very sad, but the child center is providing the grandmother with the needed formula and cereal, and the babies are doing well. Baby formula is expensive, and the mothers here cannot afford to buy it. All of the mothers nurse their babies, if at all possible. We also had five new babies that came into the center today for a first-time visit.
While Kandie and I were at the Child Center, Perry and Steve were busy loading up more of the supplies needed for the seminar. A total of three loads were taken to Kulkpeni today (cooking pots, cooking oil, water jugs, dishes, light bulbs, etc.). There is more that will be taken tomorrow.
We had planned to conduct a VBS tonight and tomorrow night at Yowando village. Unfortunately, Timothy called this morning telling us that the evangelist and several members of the village church had to be away, so we would not be able to go there. It was too late to try to organize a VBS at a different village, so we spent the afternoon and evening continuing to work on preparations for the seminar.
Kandie and Steve treated us to some traditional Ghanaian food today. For lunch, we had Red Red, a dish with black-eyed peas cooked with red palm oil, topped with gari (toasted cassava grain), and served with fried plantains. It was delicious. For dinner, we tried barbecued guinea fowl (tasted like chicken!).
The time for the seminar is quickly approaching. So many preparations have been made, and more to be done before the start on Thursday. Everyone is excited for the seminar to begin. Please pray that it will go well, and that the brethren attending will be encouraged and strengthened by being there.
