We have a pizza in the oven. No, it is not a Papa John’s, Pizza Hut or Little Caesura’s pizza; this is a Mama Kandie’s pizza! Home-made dough, home-made sauce and bits and pieces of whatever toppings we can fine; today we have mushrooms, onions, garlic and pepperoni. The cheese is always iffy but after you have been here for a while it all taste good!
I told you that Ghana is making everyone fill out the National Identity cards, well the lines are so full of people that it is difficult to get to the desk to fill out the forms. Meri went at 4:00 Saturday morning and stayed there until 6:00 Saturday evening and still did not get her forms filled out before they closed. It is just ridiculous. Timothy Niligrini said that he filled his forms at Kulkpeni one day and got his card the next day. We decided that we should find out which village they are working cards and take the workers to the village and see if we could beat the system. We loaded Zorash, her son Sherif, Nazo, Mr. Iddrisu, Nazo and Amama in the van and headed out to the village beyond Kulkpeni. When we got there we were told that the network had been down all day and they had not registered a single person. Zorash took their number so she can call and see if the network comes back on. We were told that the network in the whole northern part of Ghana was down.
After we got back from trying to get the workers registered we took Zorash to the market and bought the soybeans and corn that we needed to make a couple more batches of weaning mix. We hired Nazo’s wife to come tomorrow and wash the grain so it will be ready to roast.
Meri was late for work because she went to the “outdooring” for the pharmacist new baby. They like to attend these things because they get a take-away container of food. Today Meri got rice with oil and a boiled egg. Makes me wonder about the safety of the egg; they probably boiled them yesterday and with no refrigeration it would be a good way to get sick. These people have stomachs of steel.
Zorash took another day off to do the polio drops. They are supposed to finish this phase tomorrow.
I smell the pizza; have a great day and please pray for us!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
