This morning started out with a few clouds and a warm breeze but it didn’t take long before you could feel the heat bearing down on your body.  By the time it was 1:00 pm the temperature was 115 degrees F. and a heat index of 144 degrees F.  We didn’t even consider going to town for market day because of the heat.

Before we opened the child center we had several men come from some of the congregations to fill out some paper work that is required.  Kandie and I also sorted baby clothes as we waited on the workers to arrive this morning. I also talked with Nana Bekum, the evangelist from the Chereponi area this afternoon.  It seems the fighting and tension has started to subside around him.

There were three severely malnourished children bought to the Center this morning. I was already expecting one of the children. Linda, one of the physician’s assistants telephoned me to let me know she was sending a child for nutritional assistance.  All three children that came can be given “table food” as we would call it back home.    This is the time of the year when we see children 6 months and older brought to us malnourished because it is at the end of the dry season and there is usually a food shortage. The transition from breast milk to solid food is difficult for some children and they grow dangerously lean. It is our hope that we can turn these children’s health around so they will thrive.

This afternoon was spent painting one of the signs that were made in 2001 shortly before Royce’s death. The sign says “Gift Of God”. It is customary in Ghana to give names to a houses and vehicles.  We decided to paint it ourselves and save the money.  If some of my sentences are not making sense just attribute it to the paint fumes because we have the sign in our bedroom where the air conditioning is located.

That’s it for now.  This weekend is a holiday so please be careful and enjoy your family time!

In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
