Steve spent the bulk of the afternoon working on his continuing education. He has to renew his Ghanaian nurse’s license in March. While I was cooking supper he came in the kitchen and announced that he was finished. Nice to have that behind him for another year. His continuing education units do double duty; they qualify him for both his Alabama RN and his Ghanaian SRN. He also attends classes that the Yendi hospital gives for continuing education just because he likes to keep a presence with the hospital staff.

Divine called and wants us to come out to Kpamang and see the new project he has started working on. He is in the process of molding cement blocks for a small health center. The government has been putting up similar structures in some of the remote villages to help the communities. The problem is that Kpamang is only a few miles away from Kulkpanga and Gundogu; both of which have health centers so they do not really qualify for one of their own. Divine’s hope is that if he and the community build one the government will take it over and send a clinic worker there. We were not able to go today but maybe we can go this weekend. He did the same thing with the “School Feed Program”. He built a kitchen and store room and then contacted the Ghana School Services to see if they would support them with food to feed the children. They did not but maybe he will have more success with the clinic. He at least gets “Kudos” for trying!

Zorash said that the water company finally reconnected their water pipe to the city water. When they put in the new road through Yendi they tore up the pipes; she said that it has been 3 or 4 years since they have had pipe water. Our area has not had it either but I am not sure if they have hooked ours back up or not. Zorash said that after they connected the pipe, they only turned it on one time and it was not flowing well. They only get water one time a week when it is running. Since we are in the middle of the dry season it will be difficult to get water anyway. Zorash is annoyed with her neighbor that plants cabbage and corn behind her house because when the tractor plowed his field, he plowed so deep that he broke up the pipes and they had to buy new pipes and pay for someone to dig the lines to lay the pipe. She said she contacted him but he did not respond. I told her that she needs to mark the new pipeline very well or it will happen again.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work! Please continue to pray for the folks in Ghana.

The Monkeyshines

I just have to come right out with it and tell the truth! I got in trouble today! I had to go to time-out. I bit Mom twice; she was kind to me the first time and did not get me in trouble! I think she thought it was a “Oops! Moment” and that I did not realize what I was doing. She turned to walk away from me and I dashed over and bit her on the back of her calf! It was just there and I could not help myself! She talked roughly to me and let the matter go. But the next time was totally different. Mom took hold of my leash and was trying to help me get it untangled but I thought that she was going to put me back in my jail cell so I lashed out and bit her on her hand; I did not make her bleed but she felt it and was having none of that! She snatched me up so fast I did not know which end was up! She reached around to unlatch my leash and I nipped her again just for good measure! I knew I had had it! She marched around the veranda, through the house and into the bedroom. All the while she was saying, “NO BITING!” She flung open the door to the time-out box and shoved me inside! Then she left the room! That is the worst part! When they go out and leave me in that box all by myself it is sheer torture! A couple minutes later she came back in to see if I was ready to get out! I cried and talked; held onto the bars of the cage; stuck my hand through the bars and tried to open the latch myself. Before I am allowed to get out of time-out, she opens the door just a crack and I have to stick my hand out so she can get hold of me or else I will dash for freedom because I don’t have a leash on when I am in time-out. I stuck my hand out very nicely but I was still annoyed and when Mom took hold of my hand it gave her another little nip on the back of her hand. That’s a mistake! She popped me back in the box and left the room again. She checked on me 2 more times before she decided that I was calm enough to get out! This time I was the sweetest, calmest little gentleman you ever saw!

I can be taught!

Love, Skeeter
