Yendi Notes

Today has been a busy one. We were supposed to go north today and visit the Churches that Nana Bekum works with but somehow he didn’t get the memo when we met last month at the class. Plan B allowed us to visit the congregation at Jagrido this morning.  This is the village where Timothy Niligrini was raised. When we stopped at Timothy’s house to pick him up he asked if his children could ride along.  This village is where the children’s grandparents live and I fully understand why they wanted to come along

At our arrival at the building Timothy’s brother Daniel greeted us.  There were only few members present so we decided to walk down and greet the chief.  This is a paramount chief of the Konkomba tribe so it is important to meet him in person if possible.  On our way to the chief’s house Kandie stopped and bought some candy and biscuits (cookies) from a little roadside stand run by a 10 year old girl. She was so happy to sell so much stuff.  We even bought some candy and gave it to the children at church after services.  They loved it.

At the chief’s house a man was using rough homemade tools to cut recycled metal and make a small sickle to cut rice and guinea corn (sorghum).  Kandie went into action. He had two sickles made lying beside him and she convinced him to sell one of them. She tried to get him to sell one of his homemade hammers but to no avail.  How would he make more sickles?

Back at the church building the members had assembled and were singing.  Timothy had asked me to preach the lesson I had taught several times in the past few months: “The Unchanging God.” I use a padlock and key to illustrate my lesson.  The Church really appreciated the lesson.

Before we left the building we asked the brethren if there was someone in the village willing to sell a pig.  We need some for the seminar next week.  We were fortunate to find a man who wanted to sell two pigs.    We finally settled on a price.  We will pick it up a week next week.

When we stopped at Kulkpeni we met with Matthew Unidon to see the pig he had.  Matthew is one of the church leaders.  We agreed to buy his pig after some discussion of the price.  Matthew had a neighbor that wanted to sell one of his pigs.  The sun was very hot today and don’t you know we had to chase down the pig to see if it was big enough for us.  While we were searching for the pig we darted from one patch of shade to another.  The owner wanted more money than we were willing to give but finally he agreed to the price.   It was nearly 3:00pm when we got back to the house.

We have been working hard to get everything ready for our guests and the seminar next week so I guess we will rest when we get to heaven.  Hope you have a good Lord’s Day. May God bless!

In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
