Divine stopped by this afternoon.  He was all smiles!  He finally got his “national service” transferred to Yendi District.  They re-assigned him to be a teacher at his home village of Kpamang.  We are so happy for him.  He is on the board of the Child Center and he is instrumental in helping with the churches in this area.  He lost last month’s pay because he was not at his post but he thinks it was well worth giving up the money to be close to home.

When Zorash left work this morning we gave her some money to take to the hospital to the family of the baby with Hydrocephalus.  The family had used all their money for hospital expenses and had nothing to eat.  Later this afternoon Zorash came back to the mission house with the can of formula we sent yesterday for the baby.  When we saw the formula we feared the worst.  The baby passed away.  The family was from out of town so the baby was buried at a friend’s house.  So sad!

The sanitation men came this morning.  The job was bigger than they thought.  Their boss told them that they would probably make 2 trips.  They made 4 trips today and they still have at least 2 more trips to make.  They found that there was partial blockage between two of the sections.  They said that one of the men would climb down inside the septic tank and clear the blockage if we wanted to contract him to do the job.  We asked how much he needed to climb inside; he said he would do it for 50GH.  That is $10.50.  Would you climb down inside a septic tank for $10.50?  Please gag me!  We agreed on the price.  He stripped down to his short pants, took off his shoes and climbed barefoot down the ladder into muck!  While he was down there he used a short handled hoe and cleared the blockage.  He then told us to flush the toilets and turn on the water so he could stir up the sludge and make it easier to suck out!  I try to keep a list of jobs in Ghana I do not want.  I think that the job of removing poop from a septic tank has taken “first place”!  They promised to come back tomorrow because they could not reach the portion of the septic tank that the “grey water” flows into.  We want it all cleaned out!  They did not have enough hose to reach the grey water section.  They want us to knock a hole in the side of the tool shed so they can reach it with the hose.  We went to town this afternoon in search of another section of hose.  We found a piece but it is not as large as the one they are using.

The ladies finally finished roasting the grain this morning.  We are happy to have that job behind us.

Take care and keep us and the work in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
