Oh! The heavy coats and rain jackets came out this afternoon! The temperature right now is 72 degrees and it is drizzling. The Ghanaians say that it is “bitterly cold”! The Americans say, “This feels wonderful!” When we went to town almost everyone we passed had on a jacket of some sort. We passed a young man on a bicycle wearing a heavy ski jacket of some sort. Too funny! I made Steve drive past him several times so I could take his picture. I did not get a good picture of him because it was rather dark and drizzly. My camera does not have a fast shutter speed. It likes to take outside pictures in the sunshine.
Amama did not come to work again today; she is still feeling poorly. Friday is a holiday. The Child Center is not open on Friday so the workers get to take another day off. We called Amama and told her that she could have tomorrow off for her holiday. That will give her one more day to recuperate. Zorash is also taking tomorrow off because she has a meeting to attend. Mr. Iddrisu will take off Thursday. We are not sure when Nazo will take off; he usually likes to work the holidays so he can make a little extra money. The watchmen will decide when they want to take off because they cannot both be off the same day.
Meri came back to work this morning. She said that her son Aliu, the one with sickle cell disease was feeling a little better but he did not go back to school. She was worried about him so we sent her home early.
This afternoon Steve called Divine, the evangelist / farmer to find out where he was. He has been trying to get placed at the school at Kpamang but so far has not had any luck. He said that he was in the far northern part of Ghana and that the road to the village they assigned him to was so bad that it took them all day to get there from the main road. He said that the vehicle would get stuck; they would get out and push; ride a little while and push again. He was on his way back to Tamale to talk to the director of the school program and see if he could get him re-assigned. He spent 4 or 5 days last week in Tamale and thought that he had the problem fixed but it was not.
We went out to visit with Timothy Niligrini this afternoon, have a meeting and take care of some GNCDC business. Both Timothy and Divine are on the board of directors for the Child Center. When we finished we brought Timothy back to town so he could pick up his motorcycle from the mechanic shop. They got it fixed but found another problem. It needs a new clutch. We will look for one tomorrow while we are in Tamale. It is an item that will have to be bought at Japan Motors which means it will be a costly repair.
Take care and thank you for all you do for us. We really appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
