Steve went to the continuing education class at the hospital this morning which meant we were short-handed at the Child Center and then Mr. Iddrisu did not come to work today. We are not sure where he is but we think he might still be over beyond Tamale in his family’s home village. He was there yesterday for a funeral and it rained most of the day. We figure that he could not get public transportation to bring him back to Yendi yesterday and he had to spend the night. Nazo and Meri tried to call him today but he was out of the coverage area.
We were surprised that 55 children come to the Center this morning. Traditionally Wednesday is our slowest day. The Center was not open yesterday because of the rain. I guess that the mothers that could not come yesterday decided to come today.
This afternoon Steve worked on the hand truck. The hand truck is a flat bed pull cart type thing that we use to haul stuff around on the mission property. It comes in handy for many things. It had a flat tire and a worn out tire. We went to town and bought a used tire to replace the worn out one and a couple new inner tubes. We dropped them off at the tire repair place and then went to Zorash’s house to buy some raw shea butter. The price went up 10 Cedis (2 dollars) in 1 week. This should be enough to last us until next year.
A few minutes after we picked up the shea butter Zorash called and said that a lady had come to her area selling fabric. The lady had sewn several ½ – ¾ yard pieces of different types of fabric together to make 3 and 6 yard lengths. The fabric was perfect for the quilting project. It was a good way to get different fabric without buying full pieces and the price was right! The fabric sellers only like to sell 3 and 6 yard lengths.
When we met Divine on the road we had him wait so we could go to the hardware store and get the oil paint, turpentine, and paint brushes he would need to paint the new metal doors and facial boards on the school kitchen at Kpamang. He is going to do the painting himself. He has never painted anything; he can’t make a bigger mess than Nazo does when he paints!
We had a lively Bible class tonight dealing with spiritual gifts. Many of the denominations believe they have the power to do miracles, speak in tongues and heal. They taunt the church members and say that “the Church of Christ has no spirit”.
Have a good night.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
