Divine came to the mission house this afternoon with 2 puppies!  They were cute but they were not for us.  The puppies thought they were starving after their ride in from the bush on the back of a motorcycle inside a wicker chicken basket.  We fed them a couple times before we took them to Zorash’s house.  They are for Zorash’s sister.  Zorash had a very nice dog but he died; it is not clear if he got hit on the road or of someone killed him.  Certain tribes eat dogs and people raise them for food.  Zorash suspects that someone killed him.  People were always stopping at her house to ask if her dog was for sale.  Zorash got 2 more puppies for herself for watchdogs.  Her sister decided that she wanted some too.  Divine found a couple in Wadiig.  There are not many puppies for sale in Yendi because of its high concentration of Muslims.  Dogs are taboo for Muslims.  If a dog’s nose even touches the clothes they are wearing they have to wash and change clothes before they can go for prayers.  When my parents were alive they had a couple dogs but the workers did not like them and the watchman would put them outside the gate in the night so they would not sleep close to him and possible make him unclean.

We worked on the books again today and are now working on November’s accounts.   We can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  This year’s accounts are particularly confusing because of the changing exchange rate.  We buy everything with Cedis so all the receipts are written in Cedis then they are converted to dollars.  A few cents difference in the exchange rate can throw off the whole thing.

Amama was late for work again this morning.  Her motor scooter has been acting up.  Earlier in the week she had to get a ride to work from a friend.  She has had her motor scooter for several years.  The stuff that is imported into Ghana is usually of the cheapest quality.  Most of the Ghanaian cannot afford the good motorcycles.  They last about 3 years before they start falling apart.

When Divine was here this afternoon he said that he hired a tractor to plow 4 acres.  He is going to plant peanuts.  He said that this year he is not going to plant yams because the drought we had last year ruined his yam seeds so he is going to concentrate on peanuts and corn.

Please keep us and the work in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
