The SSNIT (Social Security Office of Ghana) called Timothy Niligrini this afternoon looking for Zorash. They said that they needed her to come to their office. The cell phone lines were not working so Steve drove over to Zorash’s house. When she called the officer, he first told her that we had not been updating the workers’ information which is not true. Then he said that he needed to update her file and to talk to her about taking early retirement which usually is given out in a large bulk sum with no monthly payments. Nana, one of the evangelists did that and it did not work out well for him. He is still working for us but his whole retirement is gone. When they gave him the large amount of money, he decided to buy a plow and a team of oxen. Can you imagine this old man working oxen? We advised Zorash not to take the early retirement. Another problem that she has is that they think she is older than she is. Her documents say that she was born in 1971, 1973, and 1975. I am not sure which one is correct but they cannot all be correct. They want to take a photo of her to go with her file. We wanted to send all the workers to the office to have pictures made and files updated but the guy said he only wants to see Zorash, who by the way is not really Zorash; her real name is Zuweria, which is going to be another problem.
We washed a couple loads of clothes this morning. This is the first time I have washed since we have been back in Yendi. I was sad when I got busy on the second batch of clothes and forgot to catch the rinse water. We usually catch the water to use to bucket flush the toilets and mop floors. Such a waste of water!
Amama was late for work this morning because she had to attend a funeral. They pass out food at the funerals and we have decided that the reason the workers want to attend the funerals and naming ceremonies first thing in the morning is so that they are sure to get the food. There is a greater chance that they will run out of food later in the day.
We spent some time this afternoon working on the books and getting the money sorted out. Fun stuff!
Steve got Donkey set up with a new key for the people gate that he uses in the mornings to enter the compound. We had other keys for the lock but since he had lost his key and had no idea where he lost it, Steve felt that for a security stand point it would be better to buy a new padlock. This way there is no chance of someone finding the key and using it to enter the property.
Thank you for all you do!

I am still banned from the bedroom because Mom is still coughing! She is much better but she said that she wants to wait a couple more days to try to make sure I don’t catch it! I spent the morning playing in the front yard and the afternoon playing on the veranda at the front of the house. I like playing on the veranda because I can open the screen door and sit up on top of the doors and watch all the goings on in the house. Also, when I am perched up there, I get all sorts of treats out of the kitchen.
Good News! I did not get in trouble today! I did not bite anyone! I did not have to go in time-out; no not once! I was a perfect angel today! I told you that I could behave myself if I wanted to and the stars were all aligned in a straight row and everything was going my way! I had a great day!
I found one of my shirts in the laundry; I snatched it out and tried to put it on all by myself. That is not something that I can even do but it does not keep me from trying. I am like a little 2-year-old kid that sits on the floor trying to put on his socks but can’t quite get it done but then gets mad if someone tries to help him. That is how I was with Mom today; she would try to help me put on the shirt but I would grab it away from her and jump on the top of the door where she could not reach me. Finally, she gave up and I just wadded up the shirt, held it tight to my stomach and pretended I was wearing it!
Someone needs to tell Mom to put Velcro on my shirts; it would make my life much easier!
Love, Skeeter
