It took the airline agent a long time to check us in because their computer was down and she had to hand write all the information onto the luggage stickers. She had just finished writing them when Steve noticed that she used the luggage tickets she was using were the ones that sent the luggage to Kumasi, not to Tamale. She was rather put out because she had to rewrite all of them. We had a total of 10 pieces of luggage that had to be checked. The plane is so small that they will not let you take roller bags on so they have to be checked.
It was almost dark when we arrived at the mission house. We would have been here earlier but Red left his cell phone at the airport when he was waiting on us to arrive. There is a small mosque at the airport; Red went there for the afternoon prayers and set his cell phone down and forgot to pick it back up. You can tell how high the Muslim population in this area is when you find a mosque at the local airport. He did not realize he left his phone until we were in Tamale. The airport is about 30 minutes from Tamale. We had stopped to buy vegetables when he noticed his phone was missing. Steve called Red’s cell phone and a very nice lady answered it. She said that she found the phone and that she would hold it until he came back to get it.
Once Red was reunited with his cell phone we went to Kentucky Fried Chicken and got something for supper. We knew there would be no cooking at the mission house this evening!
Red said that the rains had stopped and the farmers were worried about their crops. There are lots of clouds in the sky so maybe the rain is on its way.
Shortly after we got to the mission house Tichak, the night watchman showed up; we were happy to see him. He is a strong guy and the 50 pound bags were easy for him to help us unload. I personally carried in the vegetables and carry-ons.
All the vegetables had to be washed in iodine water so they will be safe for us to eat. I washed the vegetables while Steve finished unloading the van and pulled the plastic sheets off the furniture. Fortunately, it is not terribly hot outside so the air conditioner has begun to cool off the bedroom. By the time we are ready to go to bed the room should be cool.

Could you hear me shouting and rejoicing? My parents have finally come back home! I was surprised when they turned up because I did not know that they were coming back! I had already gone to bed for the night when I saw the vehicle coming down the lane. Lots of vehicles come down the lane so I didn’t think too much about it until it pulled into the drive. The next thing I heard was that high pitched voice of my mom! She was calling “Skeeter, Skeeter! We’re home! Skeeter, are you awake?”
Dad pulled the van in the yard and they both started calling me! I was a little groggy and it took me a minute to realize that they were really here! They came to my jail and I thought that they were going to unlock it and get me out but they had forgotten the key! What! How disappointing! They turned from the cage and started walking away and I started crying! I’m just a little guy and I did not understand why they were leaving me! Mom told Dad to go back and stay with me while she got the key. Dad talked to me and petted me through the bars of my jail cell!
It seemed like it took an eternity for Mom to come back with the key! Then they could not get the lock to open; it had rusted shut while they were gone. Luckily there are 2 doors on my jail house; the second door opened. Finally, I was reunited with my parents and everything in my universe was well again!
I rode around on Mom’s shoulder while they empty the van. Tichak scared me and I got so nervous that I peed down the back of Mom’s dress! Oops! I bet she wished she had taken the time to put a diaper on me!
I got to stay up later than normal tonight because they got home so late! I was so hungry that I ate a whole banana, drank a bottle of milk, 2 cashews, a piece of a carrot and part of a vanilla wafer! I feel like I am going to explode!
I will sleep good tonight!
Love, Skeeter
