Yendi Notes

We have been so busy today that we did not even get to stop and eat lunch.  Now that does not mean we did not eat anything!  Ha!  We stopped and bought cokes, peanuts and pincaso (a type of fried bread).   I lost count of how many trips Steve made out to Kulkpeni.  He would not have had to make so many trips if the motorking had not decided to act up.  Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo were making their second trip out with a load of cement blocks when they somehow lost all the bolts off the left rear wheel.  Who knew they could all vibrate off on the same trip!  These roads are so rough and full of pot holes that we really should not be surprised.  We quickly jumped in the old truck; found them and off loaded the blocks into the truck so we could keep the masons working.  Dawda, the head mason contracted with 2 other masons and 3 mixing men to do the job today so they could get it done as fast as possible.  They laid 350 blocks today and set in 2 windows and a door.  We are enclosing the veranda on one side of Kulkpeni’s church building so the ladies will have additional sleeping quarters for the seminar.  They will finish the block work tomorrow.  We are not going to worry about plastering the walls until later.  We called Solomon the motorcycle mechanic.  He came out immediately.  After we unloaded the block we walked up and down the road looking for the lost bolts.  We were fortunate and found one of them.  We told Solomon to steal one off the other wheel so he could drive it back to town to his shop.  He thought that was a fine idea.  Sure beats walking up and down the road in this heat!  The high today was 111 degrees.

The second time the motorking broke down was when they were at the block maker’s shop getting another load of blocks.  The motorking would not go.  We thought the emergency brake might have a fault but we could not figure out what was wrong with it.  Then we thought perhaps the clutch had a problem so we called Solomon to come and help us yet again.  It was the emergency brake; it did not take him long to free it.  He did not do anything to prevent it from happening again so we don’t intend to use it.

Steve paid everyone well for their hard work today.  Tomorrow should be much easier.  We are exhausted.  We will sleep good tonight!

Take care and thank you for all you help.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
