Another dispute has risen in one of the communities.  This time it is a chieftaincy matter.  Our new Ya-Naa, the king of the Dagombas, enskinned a man to be the chief (king) of one of the villages and the people that live in the village do not want him for their chief.  Insults were exchanged; houses and property burned; and many of the people have run away from the village.  A plea was made to the Ya-Naa to step in and help with the matter.  Presently they are waiting for the government to decide if this is a serious case or if the problem will solve itself.  You know the old saying, “too many chiefs and not enough Indians”, well that seems to be the case here.  Many men contest to be a chief but only a few will get appointed to the position.  There are always disgruntled people after any sort of election even if is just the school kids choosing teams, or student council.  Someone said that they sure hope it hurries up and rains so the men will start concentrating on working in their farms instead of fighting!  Let’s pray for rain!

Mr. Iddrisu went back up to the IRS office this morning to pay the taxes and to pick up the employees’ tax ID certificates.  Well he was only partially successful.  We needed certificates for 6 of the employees and we only got 4.  We still needed more information on Tichak, one of the night watchmen and on Emmanuel, the old evangelist.  It took some calling around to get all the information but we feel confident that we will succeed this time.

Red stopped by for a visit this afternoon.  We were finally able to pay for the spray painting of the handicapped tricycle.  Actually Red had taken care of us and had already paid the guy out of his own pocket so we owed Red instead of the sign painter.  We don’t like to owe anyone but we felt better about owing Red instead of a stranger.

It was hot again today; the high temperature was 115 degrees.  Too hot for neither man nor beast!  At least the past 2 rains made the grass sprout and now the goats and sheep have something to eat.

We spent the afternoon counting money and trying to get April’s pay roll and pay packets ready.  While we were going through the receipts we noticed that the mail box rental receipt said that we were in arrears.  Steve just paid it a week or so ago.  We stopped what we were doing and went to town to check on it.  The postmaster said we were not in arrears and not to worry.  I guess their bookkeeping is a year behind.

Thank you for all you do for us and for the work.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
