Oh! What a busy day! Zorash had to come to work today to make up the day she took off earlier in the week to go to Tamale. We asked Nazo’s wife Amina to come and help her wash the corn and soybeans. We had just started washing it when Osman the agriculture man came to spray the trees. We did not think he would be coming until next week. We were washing the corn outside. There was no way that we could stay outside while he was spraying gallons of spray so we went inside. Amina washed the dishes and swept the floors while we were waiting for them to finish spraying. When Zorash arrived they went back outside and finished washing the grain. After that we made diaper rash ointment, almost 500 containers and a little more than that of the ointment for ringworm. While we were in the kitchen making the ointments Steve and Mr. Iddrisu counted the payroll. Well, actually we had counted and divided the payroll earlier in the week but we always have Mr. Iddrisu count behind us and seal everyone’s pay envelope so there is no question about the amount of money in the envelopes. It helps to protect everyone that is handling the money. This afternoon we got the Social Welfare report edited and copies of the audit and copies of the other documents that have to be included in the report. After supper we will put the reports together. We had to make 4 copies of everything.
Divine stopped by this morning with the receipts for the work he did in Tamale and to tell his experiences of his trip. I told you yesterday that he ran out of money and we had to send him some extra. We told him to be sure and get receipts for the money. Well he got a receipt but not an official receipt; he got a hand written receipt that said at the top of the page, “Temporal Receipt”! Can you imagine? Is that anyway to do business? But a receipt is a receipt and at least it will help keep our books straight.
We got a very nice rain last night and about 1:00 this afternoon the sky turned dark and we started scurrying around trying to get the corn and soybeans in the house before the rain came. After the grain is washed we have to put it on tarps in the yard so that it can dry or else it will begin to swell up and try to sprout or worse yet mold! The corn was pretty much dry but the soybeans are spread out in the living room under the fan.
After it stopped raining Steve got the truck ready for our trip to the bush tomorrow. We are going to go to a place that is a couple hours from Yendi. This will be the first long trip for the truck since it had the engine work done a few weeks ago. Keep us in your prayers.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
