Today is our grandson Taylor’s 21st birthday! Where in the world has the time gone?

We spent the day in Tamale. We had lots of errands to run but we only successfully completed about half of them. We needed to renew the insurance on the vehicles and also the liability insurance. We could not renew Timothy Niligrini’s motorcycle because he has not kept up the renewal on the motorcycle’s Veld (road worthiness). We also could not renew my brother Paul’s truck insurance because now they are requiring that all expatriates have non-citizens’ cards if they are going to have cell phones or vehicles registered in their names. We talked to him on our way back to Yendi; he is not coming in again until the fall so he will have to do the paperwork next time he comes in. We tried to by-pass putting his name on the insurance and put Red, the driver’s name, instead but the insurance officer said that the owner and the insurance had to be written to the same person. The insurance office could not get the insurance sticker to print out for the motor king so the guy said we could print our own copy later. Really, are we doing your work for you?

We were supposed to give the lawyer his retainer fee today but he had to make a trip to Accra. The lawyer asked us to come back on Friday. We sure hate to make another trip to Tamale that quickly but maybe we will be able to get the other things done that we did not get done today.

We did not have enough time to check on the Social Welfare License. When we went to the bank to pay to renew Steve’s Ghanaian nursing license, they said that the bill had to be generated online. Our next stop was the Nurses and Midwives council to find out what was going on. They said that they are no longer renewing in their office and that it all had to be done online. They also said that they were not sure if the classes he took for continuing education could be used because they have their own approved courses and he might have to take some additional courses. The ladies in the office were very kind and tried to help Steve get on line and set up an account but their server was not working. It was down last week too. Steve told her that he was afraid the renewal would be late and he would lose his license. He was assured that even though his license had expired he had until August to get everything turned in. We are hoping that the server will come up before Friday so he can get registered and if he runs into any problem he can stop at the nurses’ council and ask for their advice. The whole thing is nerve racking!

We did get some grocery shopping done while we were waiting for the insurance company to prepare all the documents and we had a lovely lunch at the Lebanese restaurant. There were some enjoyable parts of the day!

Please pray for us as we muddle through all this paperwork!

The Monkeyshines

I don’t have the words to tell you how lonely I was today. The parents left this morning at 6:40 and they did not return until 7:00 this evening. There were not any workers in the compound today either! I did not have my morning or afternoon bottle because no one was here to make one for me! Baby monkey’s need their bottles! The workers have gone on holiday! Mom fixed me a huge bowl of fresh fruits and vegetables and an equally big bowl of dry snacks so I had plenty to eat but I just did not have anyone to look at or fuss at! I picked through my food dishes and ate the stuff I like the best and gave the stuff I don’t like a pitch. I don’t know anyone that eats hard raw field corn. I keep throwing it out; you would think Mom would get the idea that I don’t like it but she keeps putting it in the dish; I think I would like it a lot better if it was the soft immature kernels and how about cooking it and putting on some butter and salt!

As soon as the parents got back this evening Mom rushed in the house and fixed me a bottle! She fixed my bottle before she helped Dad unload the van; she knew I was hungry! I drank the whole thing; she was eating a beef kabob so I had a piece of that for dessert! It was quite tasty!

I will sleep good tonight with my full tummy!

Love, Skeeter
