Our son-in-law Marcus is going to come over in November and teach at this year’s seminar. We are very excited that he is coming. He is in the process of getting his visa and his immunizations. He only has to have one shot to come to Ghana and that is Yellow Fever. There is a national shortage of Yellow Fever vaccine! Imagine that! Charity and Marcus have been calling all over trying to find the vaccine. We figure that part of the problem is that a couple years ago the World Health Organization decided that one Yellow Fever vaccine would protect the person for life instead of having a booster every 10 years. We wonder that since the vaccine is good for life and the demand for the vaccine has gone down if the manufactures are not producing as much as they once were. Some places said that they would not get anymore for 1 year. Marcus has an appointment with Vanderbilt in a few weeks. Hopefully he will be able to get his shot then.
This afternoon we went to town and order another batch of formula. Steve ordered 144 cans. That should last a couple months. The families are very grateful for the formula so they can keep the babies at home rather than putting them in an orphanage.
We spent the rest of the afternoon working on the books and getting all the receipts entered. I was very pleased that we got the job finished and everything tallied up correctly!
A lady came to the Child Center this morning selling plantain. She had both the ripe ones and the green ones. We like to make chips out of the green ones. After we have been here for a while they remind us of corn chips (tortilla chips). Steve made a big bowl of salsa while I fried the plantain.
Nazo hauled gravel this morning to fill in around the patio that where the erosion has washed the gravel away. Since we have no grass in the yard the rain erodes the ground very quickly. Of course Nazo’s raking and picking up gravel every day does not help either. Nazo does not realize that he is contributing to the problem by using a dustpan type thing to pick up the leave and gravel. He has made a mound of gravel and leaves at the back of the property. Nazo and Mr. Iddrisu have been redistributing the gravel.
Hope you have a great day! Thanks for all you do!
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
