It drizzled off and on most of the day today but at least the clouds kept things cooler. The rainy season is actually our coolest time of the year. We have a huge pile of clothes that need to be washed; I hate to admit it but we left in such a hurry at the end of March trying to get out of here because of the Covid Virus that I left a laundry basket full of dirty clothes. Steve has scrub tops that can be worn either inside or outside; if we don’t get a sunny day soon he might have to start wearing his scrubs 2 days! Ha! We don’t have a clothes dryer so all our laundry is fresh and crispy from the sun.
We went to GRA (Ghana Revenue Authority) this morning to find out what hoops we have to jump through to get the “Tax Clearance Certificate” so we can move forward on registering the land. They were nice but it was all confusing because the land is not owned by the Child Center rather by an eldership. We had a difficult time explaining things to them because denominations are not autonomous and they thought we should tie the property to the Church of Christ here in Yendi. At the end of this morning’s discussion they told us we needed to register separately. We came back to the mission house to fill out the forms and make copies. We went back this afternoon and started the process of getting a Tax ID Number. We have a meeting with the director on Monday. We were told that if everything goes smoothly we should have the certificate in a couple days.
We spent the time between running back and forth to the GRA office unpacking suitcases and putting everything away. The cistern is completely full of water! Hopefully it is not leaking; we won’t be able to tell as long as it is still raining. We primed the pump and filled up the large poly tanks. Steve made new screens for the downspouts that carry water from the roof to the cistern. We like to catch all the leaves and debris before it gets into the cistern.
Steve started trimming the bushes around the mission house so the watchmen would have a clearer view of the yard. He also trimmed the fire blight out of the small mango tree.
Supper is almost ready so I will close for now. Keep us and the work in your prayers. By the way very few people in Yendi are wearing masks or social distancing. Please pray that we will stay Corona free.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
