We spent part of the day in the hotel just hanging out. I used the time to work on editing the cultural information that I have been collecting over the years. When people tell me bits of their culture and proverbs, I write them on tablets, on the back of receipts and odd scraps of paper. I never know when these tidbits of information are going to pop up and I know that if I don’t write them down immediately, I will forget them and they will be lost forever. Every so often I sit down and enter the tidbits into a word document. I have no idea what I am going to do with the information but I have fun gathering it. I got so busy editing that I did not get anything new entered; the night is young! Ha!
Mid-morning we went to the MTN (phone office) to see if we could figure out why Steve’s cell phone no longer had the ability to get on the internet. In fact, it would not even let Steve check his mobile money account. The office is within walking distance of the hotel/apartment that we are staying in so we walked to the office. When we got there, we found out that the mobile phone company’s server had been down all day yesterday, through the night and part of the morning. We were happy that there was no problem with the phone.
Later this afternoon the Wi-Fi in the hotel was restored so Steve was able to send Sunday and Monday’s Yendi Notes. Hopefully the connection will hold long enough for Steve to get tonight’s notes sent.
After we finished at the phone company we went to the Cultural Center to do a little shopping. I did not find anything spectacular today; I bought a few things but mostly they were gifts for other people. The Dollar to Cedi exchange rate has put a serious hamper on my spending! I still had a good time looking and we got plenty of exercise!
We had a late lunch at the Lebanese restaurant. The owner had a terrible cold and cough! We sanitized after we shook hands with her and she wore a mask while she prepared our lunch but still….! She was seriously sick and we don’t want whatever she had!
After lunch we went to the Forex (Foreign Exchange Bureau) and changed dollars. We planned on catching a taxi to the Forex but we did not see any so we started walking. When we were about a block away from the Forex, we met one but Steve declined it because we were so close. More exercise; lucky me! At least we got a better exchange rate than we did in July when we first came back to Ghana.
We fly back to Tamale at noon tomorrow. This is the first time that we have left a vehicle at the airport in overnight parking! Sure hope that it is still there when we get to Tamale!
Take care and have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve, Kandie and Skeeter
