I didn’t want to chance having a breakdown in the newly repaired truck on the way to Tumbu so we took the old van with old fashion air conditioning; rolled down windows. It was hot today. Even Timothy Niligrini commented about the heat. The high temperature was 109 degrees.
Tumbu in the Saboba District; about an hour and a half away from Yendi. John Nchola asked us to come to his house in Bungbali first so we could pick up some of the members who wanted to visit Tumbu for the joint service. We arrived a little early, while we waited for the people to come to the van Kandie tried her best to get the young people to tell her a story. She was only able to weasel out a story from one young boy.
Tumbu is about five miles down the road from Bungbali. The people riding in the van sang all the way to the church building. There was enough time for us to visit the old chief before service began. The chief is not in good health. There is a good chance he has had a stroke. He has limited mobility on his right side. I gave him the kola and offered prayer on his behalf. At the chief’s house Kandie found an old grinding stone that she tried to get the family to sell but she couldn’t get them to agree to it.
During the worship service I taught a lesson entitled “If a brother sins against you” from Matthew 18:15-17. After services we had the question and answer period. Of course there were lots of questions and the audience was very attentive. Since we had just been to Bungbali last month Kandie and I purchased two good soccer balls to give to each congregation instead of church benches. These two congregations like to get together and play soccer for a fellowship so they were extremely happy to get the balls. As a parting gift the congregation gave us some yams and some guinea eggs. Such a nice big gift for a small congregation!
John asked us to take the church members back to his house so we did. Before he let us go his family provided us with a meal of TZ (stiff corn meal mush) and smoked, dried fish soup. I am happy to report the old van arrived back at the compound around 3pm without any problems. Totally unlike last week when the pickup broke down.
At Kulkpeni tonight I gave a short talk about how we should work for men just as if we are working for God referencing from Ephesians 6:5-9. Boy, did it generate the questions. So much so we had 30minutes of questions and answers. It was great! A relative of the late John Kanbonja was present tonight. He told us he was staying in the village so he can go to the Yendi Hospital early tomorrow. He said his 9 year old daughter was weeding in the farm when she was bitten by a cobra. He said he took the child immediately to the hospital where they gave one vial of Anti-Snake Venom. We gave him a little money to help with the hospital bills which he kindly thanks us.
That takes care of today. We hope you have a good Lord’s Day and may God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
