Yendi Notes

It was a ‘cool’ 109 degrees here today!  Steve has had to be outside almost all day again.   I believe he has gotten his quota of Vitamin D for the whole month!  The masons finished the job at Kulkpeni.  We are proud to have that portion of the job behind us.  This afternoon was the clean up.  We made many trips from Kulkpeni to the mission house to bring back all the stuff we had taken out.  The scaffolding and wheel barrel that we rented had to be returned.  We even brought back the sand and gravel that they did not use.  If we had left it out there it would not have been there when we needed it to finish the project.  The children at Kulkpeni are unsupervised and children cannot resist a pile of sand.  In the 4 days that the sand had been out there they had scattered a large portion of it.  We used part the left over cement to make a small stoop for the back door of the church building.  The remainder we used to fill the holes around the foundation that the ants were using for their houses.

We hired Timothy Niligrini, the evangelist, and Tichak one of the church members who is also one of the watchmen to load and unload the sand and gravel.  They were more than happy to get some extra money and we were more than happy to have the extra help!

Mr. Iddrisu did not come to work today; he said his back was hurting from yesterday’s work.  Zorash did not come either so Meri and I were alone in the Child Center most of the day.  After Amama finished her house work she came and gave us a hand.  Steve was free to help us at the end of the morning.

We thought we would use the motorking so we could get all the stuff back to Yendi quicker but it broke down again.  Luckily this time it was not filled with cement blocks that had to be off loaded.  Solomon the mechanic could not get it started so he got a bunch of boys to push it the two miles to his shop.  Don’t you know they were exhausted!

We missed lunch again today.  It is now 6:00 and Steve just got back from town.  I ran into Shiabu, the electrician in town this afternoon and asked him to do the electrical work on the building for us.  He said that he would be free tomorrow to do the work but we needed to buy the parts and supplies this afternoon.  After our last load Steve took Shiabu to town to get the things he would need.

Today is the first day of the Damba festival; Nazo took today off so he could attend the festivities; today was the day for “picking rice”.  They sit and pick the stones out of the rice before it is cooked.

Please keep us and the work in your prayers.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
