Zorash came to work today to make up one of the days she was off earlier in the week.  She said that during the 3 days her team gave Yellow Fever immunizations to almost 750 people.  She said that it has been 10 years since they gave the immunizations.  She said that they had a hard time getting the people to take the immunization.  Many were reluctant to get the immunization; some of them think that it is not an immunization rather it is birth control program given to them by the United States.  It will make everyone sterile and thus control the population in Ghana.  Others said they were real “Dagomba Men” so they would not take it.  Some were just plain “afraid”.

I realized that I was going to need a couple hundred more pieces of scrap to finish the quilt I am working on because I changed up the design.  I have lots of fabric but all of the pieces in this quilt have to be of different fabric.  Zorash went with us to town in search of fabric scraps.  We hit the jackpot at one of the shops.  The lady sold us a 200 pound feed sack of scraps.  The bag was about ¾ full.  Surely we will be able to get the rest of the scraps I need.  The pieces I cannot use I will gift to Timothy; he can use them to make masks or to trim children’s clothes.

The masons came earlier this morning and they stayed later than normal.  They finished the casting of the lintels over the doors, windows, and veranda.  Tomorrow the roofer is supposed to come and give us an estimate of the cost of the roof.  We normally use Aboochi for roofing projects but he is so busy and he is one of the most expensive roofers in Yendi so we are going to try a man that Dawda knows.

While Zorash was here I had her teach me to make caramel candy.  It is made with sweetened condensed milk; how could that be bad?  We made a bunch, it turned out good.  I sent half of it home with her to share with her family and the other half we took back to the masons.   We thought they could use a pick-me-up!

Today was Mr. Iddrisu’s day off so Steve had to man the motor king today.  I lost count of how many trips he made to the back of the property and to town for boards and cement.  The masons were short-handed today so the one that came to work had to work extra hard.  They were happy with the extra we put in their pay for today.

Take care and have a great day.

In His Service,

Steve and Kandie
