First thing this morning we went out to Kulkpeni to block off the opening on the east side of the church property.  The people are still passing through the property by foot, bicycle and motorcycle.  Yesterday someone on a bicycle did not realize that the men were digging the footer and they fell into the ditch.  Really, what did they think all those men were doing; and at that time ¾ of the west wall was complete.  We were afraid that if we did not block off the other footpath someone might have a serious accident.  We used the 12-foot main gates that have not been set yet to block the footpath.  Then we set about marking the footer for the next line.  The neighbors are not happy that the wall is going up.  The church property used to be larger than it is now but bit by bit the church members allowed people to encroach on the property.   The neighbor on the south side built a full house on the church property.  The members said they did not want to say anything to him because he was the linguist for the chief and he attended church.  He has since passed away.  His widow and children have built a meeting and greeting place on the church property, they sit there every day to do their outside work like shelling corn and peanuts.  They also use that area to feed their chickens and guinea fowls.  This morning the widow told us that she did not want us to put the wall up; she said that she wanted us to leave the portion of the wall open beside her house so she could continue to use the area under the trees.  We explained what we were doing and that we were trying to keep the people that attend the seminar on the church property and off of the neighbors and to secure the property.  After much talking she agreed that we could dismantle their meeting place.  When the men started to dig, she stopped them and said that they could not dig up the little garden that her friend planted on the church property.  Please!  She said that we would have to wait until the woman could harvest the green leaves.  The digger moved to the north side of the property and started working on the footer.  Please!

Steve ordered bicycle tires and tubes for the evangelists and church leaders this morning and they arrived this afternoon.  Mr. Oldman, our neighbor and friend , knows someone in Tamale that sells bicycle parts in his shop.  He sent them to Yendi in a bus or cargo truck.  The monthly class is this coming Friday.

A strong wind came with the rain storm last night and it knocked over Timothy’s corn.  He spent the day in the farm harvesting the corn.  He said that it is sort of an emergency when the corn is knocked down because it will begin to rot and try to germinate.

Have a good day!

The Monkeyshines

This afternoon Dad watched a frightening movie; it was Aladdin and the movie had Jins (sort of like genies but more like ghosts); they were terribly frightening.  Mom was sewing and Dad was snapping green beans so I had nowhere to hide!  It was just terrible!  I was so happy when lunch time came and I was taken back to my jail cell!  At least there are no genies there.  I am sure that I will have nightmares about them tonight!  After lunch Dad was still snapping green beans; Mom told him to put in a movie that was not so scary!  He put in a movie that had a dog kennel and mostly nice people.  That movie was much easier on my heart!  I sounded a warning every time one of the dogs appeared; I must protect the parents!

When Mr. Oldman came this afternoon to get the money for the bicycle tires Mom and Dad had to talk to him for a few minutes.  It is never a good thing to leave a monkey unattended!  Dad did not put away the thing that looks like a big book that holds the DVDs.  When they came to check on me, I had destroyed 4 or 5 DVDs.  So now I am in trouble again!  Can I help it that I love shiny things like DVDs?

If I can’t do better, I am going to be on “Bread and Water”!
