We stopped the leak! I am so happy! This morning we started refilling the big tank. We pulled as much water as we could from the reservoir. The upper and lower tanks are full plus the big reserve tank is 1/3 of the way full. We should be able to fill it completely when we get the next big rain. Of course we did laundry today; eight loads and we still are not finished.
This afternoon we pulled out all the bed sheets and linens; we sorted through them. We culled some and some needed a little repair work. I had the sewing machine out to shorten some of the curtains a couple days ago and had not put it away so did some of the repair work. There are a couple more things that need the hems put back in but I am going to bleach them first to see if the stains will come out. If not I am not going to bother fixing them.
Osman, the agric man came and gave the mango trees their monthly spraying. We were not happy when we saw that some of the leaves had the same problem. Osman did not spray while the trees were bearing fruit because he did not want the people to eat the fruit with the spray. Hopefully now that he is back on the regular spraying schedule he can correct the problem.
This afternoon Anthony, one of the men that graduated from the Tamale school of preaching stopped by for a visit. He would dearly love for us to put him on payroll but we are not hiring any new evangelists. We have found that if they are on payroll they make more money than any of the church members and the church members don’t feel the need to help them. Last time he came for a visit we told him that we would help him start a small business so he could be self-sufficient. We feel like this is a better way to help these men anyway. He decided that he would like to have a small shop in his village. He said no one in his village is selling soup ingredients so he is going to start by selling canned tomato paste, salt, sugar, bouillon cubes, soap and cooking oil. As the business grows he will be able to add more items. Hopefully his business will be a big success.
It is a very strange thing that the people here worry about their/our vehicles being dirty. They even wash their motorcycles and bicycles. We will go through the whole dry season without washing our vehicles. If there are women out there that are walking 2 and 3 miles to get water we can ride around in a dirty vehicle. This morning after our bike ride Nazo asked for some soap and a rag so he could wash our bicycles. He told me that they were too dirty and that it had been too long since we washed them. Are they easier to ride if they are clean? I didn’t really mind because there was water in the reservoir. I gave Nazo the soap, bucket and rag. He spent over an hour washing those bicycles. They are shiny and clean. Even the sprockets are clean!
Thank you for the love, prayers and support. We appreciate the help.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
